Honorable Mentions ’10, Round Two

Here are 10 more photos from the Mochimochi Photo Contest that are very deserving of shout-outs for their awesomeness! In no particular order:

Morty in the garden by Dknits

pc10_hm11

Morty and friends are picture-perfect!

Hippos like to read hippo books by kountingsheep

pc10_hm12

It’s so cute how engrossed this hippo is in his book about hippos. And this book somehow seems appropriate for the reading level of most hippos.

“Welcome” Snails by tamarafarmgirl

pc10_hm13

This gnome is mighty proud of his snail ranch. The red snail is a rare breed!

SewerGators by flyingsealpress

pc10_hm14

Neat composition in this photo of what might be some people’s nightmare. (But they look pretty friendly!)

Cooler bath… by lulubelleknits

pc10_hm15

A presumptuous snowman has made himself at home with an ice bath in Tubby. That’s a miffed bathtub if I’ve ever seen one!

Reddy the Pigeon by gardienne33

pc10_hm16

A lovely perching pigeon photo, and the detail on the feet is a nice touch!

Might not be mutual by taffyyarn

pc10_hm17

Hugs here is quite sure that the “might not be mutual” title refers to the fact that Blythe doesn’t share his love for the Country Music Network, and it certainly doesn’t have anything to do with the fact that they both like to hug a lot.

I Hate to Housekeep by undermost_salamander

pc10_hm18

And you thought you didn’t enjoy vacuuming—at least you’re not a vacuum yourself!

Packaged candy corn by Paula knits

pc10_hm19

I’d certainly pick “trick” over “treat” if this was one of the options.

Pigeons on birdcage by Tobysmum

pc10_hm20

These guys seem pretty pleased to be on this side of the bars.

Congratulations to these knitters on some great photos!

Tomorrow we’ll post the first batch of semifinalists, and we’ll ask you to tell us who should go on to the finals. Be sure to check back for it!

Honorable Mentions ’10, Round One

Thank you all again for your fantastic photos in this year’s Mochimochi Photo Contest! I couldn’t help thinking that this year’s batch of entries (more than 500 of them!) were the best ever, but that would probably sound corny, so I won’t bother.

John and I just spent hours going through all of the photos, and after much deliberation, we managed to selected 20 photos to be our semifinalists. We’ll be announcing those soon, and you will get a chance to root for your favorites before the big final vote.

But first! There were so many other great entries that we have two batches of honorable mentions that we want to acknowledge for their cuteness and cleverness. We hereby honorably mention these first ten photos, in no particular order:

Squirrel & beetle by giolou

pc10_hm2

This Squirrel on Wheels seems to have found a role model. Let’s hope he doesn’t fall off on a sharp turn!

silly pencil! by estars 100

pc10_hm10

This Petit Pencil thinks he’s a real master of disguise.

Floating Woodins by Irina Yuzhina

pc10_hm3

It’s a little-known fact that Woodins win every four years in the synchronized floating competition in Mochimochi Land.

Trick or treat!!!!! by fullerenedream

pc10_hm4

Rainycloud and friends dress up like a family of spooky ghosts for Halloween. Love the holes cut for all those eyes!

Hugs and Squoze in the wild by John and Caroline Wise

pc10_hm5

If Hugs and Squoze got lost in the wilderness, at least they’ll be sure to keep warm!

Tiny Pancakes meet their match by cupcakefields

pc10_hm1

This yummy stack’s best defense mechanism is a bunch of beady little eyes! But those may not save them this time…

Tropical Tiny Perching Pigeon by Margaritas8

pc10_hm6

This exotic bird says hands off her fruit!

Arsenal slither victory over slippery competition! by ottersaregreat

pc10_hm8

I’d hate to be the guy who has to clean the field after this slimy match. (Love the attention to detail!)

Loitering with intent (3) while admiring the view by mrsdoepper

pc10_hm9

Even city pigeons can pause to appreciate the beauty of nature. (Although they’re probably also conspiring to poop on someone’s head.)

Snowmen Ornaments by yarngirl69

pc10_hm7

These snowmen have been ready for Christmas since October, so they’re beginning to feel a little light-heading from all that hanging!

Congratulations to all of these clever knitters! We’ll have the second batch of honorable mentions coming up shortly.

500+ Photos!

The deadline for the 2010 Mochimochi Photo Contest just passed. It looks like we got more than 500 entries again this year—thank you all so much for your photos!

John and I can’t wait to look carefully through all the great photos in the Flickr pool. Once we’ve narrowed them down just a bit, we’ll share our honorable mention picks, and then everyone will get to help narrow down the semifinalists into finalists for the big final vote. So be sure to check back here for all the fun!

Last Day to Submit Your Photos!

Today (Monday) is the last day to enter the 2010 Mochimochi Photo Contest! Upload your pics of Mochimochi Land projects to the Mochimochi Friends group on Flickr by midnight tonight to have them eligible for this year’s contest.

But if you’re a little behind, don’t worry! All photos added to the group after midnight tonight will be automatically entered in next year’s contest. So late photos are actually very early entries!

You Know You Want a Memo Mushi

I don’t know about you, but my memos are always in a state of disarray. If you’re the winner of the Mochimochi Photo Contest, though, you’ll get to organize your memos in this sophisticated cat Memo Mushi, straight from Japan!

memomushi

This is just one of the many prizes in store for the winners.

Monday is the deadline for entries—you can still totally knit up a Mochimochi toy and take a funny picture of it by then! See details here.

Announcing the 2010 Mochimochi Photo Contest!

pc10_announce

Needles ready? It’s now officially time to enter the 4th annual Mochimochi Photo Contest!

Once again, we’re looking for the cutest, funniest, most interesting photos of Mochimochi Land toys. All you have to do to enter is upload your photo(s) to the Mochimochi Friends group on Flickr by November 15th.

Winners will receive cute goodies from Japan and gift certificates from Mochimochi Land and Knit Picks, who are again generously sponsoring!

Eligibility

To be eligible, your photo must contain at least one knitted toy made from a Mochimochi Land pattern. This can be a pattern from the Mochimochi Shop, a pattern from Knitting Mochimochi, or one of the free patterns on the Mochimochi Blog. The pattern may be modified, but not beyond recognition from the original design.

How to enter

Simply upload your photo(s) to the Mochimochi Friends Flickr group. If you don’t have a Flickr account, it is free and easy to register (though we recommend signing up as soon as possible, because it takes a little time for your account to be approved for sharing photos in a group). You can upload as many photos as you want, within reason.

(All photos uploaded since the deadline of the 2009 photo contest last year are already entered in this year’s contest!)

Deadline

The last day to enter the contest is November 15th, 2010. We’ll announce the semi-finalists shortly thereafter here on the blog, then everyone will be able to vote for their favorites! So be sure to check the blog in November.

Prizes!

First place prize will be a bunch of cute goodies from Japan, a $25 gift certificate to the Mochimochi Shop, and a $50 gift certificate to Knit Picks (thank you Knit Picks!).

Second place prize will be a handful of cute goodies from Japan, a $15 gift certificate to Mochimochi Land, and a $10 gift certificate to Knit Picks.

Third place prize will be a $10 gift certificate to Mochimochi Land and a $10 gift certificate to Knit Picks.

So get those needles clicking and those cameras snapping!

2009 Photo Contest Winners!

The results are in! But first, a HUGE thank-you to everyone who participated in this year’s Mochimochi Photo Contest, by entering your incredibly cute and fun photos, by cheering on your favorites in the semifinals round, and by casting ballots in the finals round. The photo contest is one of our favorite things that we do in Mochimochi Land, and we are thrilled to make it a tradition that many people take part in every year.

This was our first year to have a sponsor: Knit Picks, an online supplier of great yarn! (I recommend the Wool of the Andes for knitting toys.) Thank you very much to them for supplying generous prizes to the winners.

Also new this year is a “Judges’ Choice” award to recognize a favorite photo of mine and John’s that didn’t make it into the top three in the voting. We are happy to announce that this award goes to Chicken Gang Leader by teekayknits!

You get a $10 gift certificate to the Mochimochi Shop for your photo. Great job!
