Semifinalists, Round One

I’m pleased to present (in no particular order) the first 10 of 20 semifinalists for the Mochimochi Photo Contest! John and I based our selections of the semifinalists on originality of scene, ingenuity of knitting, and quality of photo. These photos are all amazing, and very hard to choose among!

We need to narrow the 20 semifinalists down to 10, and you can help by campaigning for your favorites in the comments to this post. Tomorrow I’ll post the next 10 semifinalists, and then I’ll post the selected 10 finalists at the end of the week and voting will officially begin!

UPDATE 12/12/07: I’ve taken the images in this post down to save bandwidth, but you can still click on the links to see the photos!

Snake and Mouse nature scene by neferstie
We see the sleepy predator trying to swallow his mischievous prey in this nicely shot nature scene.

Cannibalism? by giolou
Is this Pepto-drinking-Pepto image funny or disturbing? Maybe both!

Rodent Roundup by muffychloe
Mischievous Mouse and a baby guinea pig. Need I say more? (Except maybe awwwww…)

Colorful Woodins by staveitoff
I love the color variation of these little guys! And it’s a beautiful photo.

Snake & Mouse Dia De Los Muertos Altar by knittygirlie
An awesome customized Snake and Mouse festively celebrating the life of the knitter’s grandmother.

A cloud on the horizon by knitfaced
What a gorgeous landscape! Rainycloud fits right in.

Mischievous Mouse smells a flower by mikkers!
Oh, Mischievous Mouse, you’re such a romantic!

How Ninjabun was Fooled by snuffykin
An altruistic Grass protects his carrot friend by dressing up as “the Great Carrot” to scare off a hungry Ninjabun. Click on the photo to read the whole story. (It has a happy ending!)

Bob in the wild by lizzie j b
I love the authentic flash-photography of this night scene, and the surprised look on Bob’s face! (Who knew that Bobs were nocturnal?)

One of these things is strangely like the others by mariannes stuff
Snake and Mouse go mini-golfing! Hilarity ensues.

Aren’t they all fantastic? Let us know which are your favorites in the comments, and come back tomorrow to see the remaining 10 semifinalists!

  1. so many wonderful photos! I think my favorites are

How Ninjabun was Fooled by snuffykin

    and

Snake & Mouse Dia De Los Muertos Altar by knittygirlie

  2. So cute!
Here’s my choices, in this order:
    1. A cloud on the horizon
    2. Colorful Woodins
    3. One of these things is strangely like the others

I hope one of mine is in the next ten! What are the rules for voting for one’s self, in case it occurs? Not that I’m saying I would do it…inquiring minds want to know…

  3. This is my favorite. It shows a lot of effort and creativity.
Snake & Mouse Dia De Los Muertos Altar.

  4. 1) Cloud on the horizon
    2) Colorful Woodins
    3) Bob in the wild (he really does look surprised)

  5. Thank you for putting in your two cents, everyone—keep ’em coming! The real vote with buttons and everything (hopefully!) will come in a few days, so make sure to check back for that!

As for people voting for themselves, that’s totally allowed. But once we’re doing the official voting, I’ll ask that everyone just vote once. (We’re probably going to be operating on the honors system for that.)

  6. All of these photos are awesome! But, my favorite is the Snake & Mouse Dia De Los Muertos Altar.

  7. Knittygirlie’s Snake and Mouse are just amazing. I like the raincloud as well, and the first Snake and Mouse Nature Scene.

  8. what Astrid said… those are my three faves too! :)

also: it’s an honor just to be nominated! thanks Anna and John! =D

  9. Snake & Mouse Dia De Los Muertos Altar by knittygirlie shows the most creativity, in my opinion. It obviously took a lot of effort. Also Cannibalism? by giolou is just adorable.

  10. 1: Cannibalism? by giolou
2: How Ninjabun was Fooled by snuffykin
3: Snake & Mouse Dia De Los Muertos Altar by knittygirlie
4: Bob in the wild by lizzie j b

    Voilà ^_^

  11. Although they are all great here are my top 3 in order:

    1. Snake & Mouse Dia De Los Muertos Altar.
    2. How Ninjabun was Fooled.
    3. A cloud on the horizon.

  12. My top 2:
    1. Cannibalism? by giolou
    2. A cloud on the horizon by knitfaced
    I couldn’t decide for a 3, two were tied :)

  13. My top three:
    (1) How Ninjabun was Fooled by snuffykin
    (2) Snake and Mouse nature scene by neferstie
    (3) A cloud on the horizon by knitfaced

  14. Thank you so much everyone! It means a lot to me that this picture made it into semi-finals….

My favorites are in no particular order:

    1. Cannibalism
    2. Woodins
    3. How Ninjabun was fooled

    :)

  15. How Ninjabun Was Fooled totally gets my vote!! What a wonderful combination of creative knitting using a variety of your patterns! That photo totally made my day.

  16. This is really hard, but I think maybe (not necessarily in order):

    1. Minigolfing snake and mouse. That mouse is a genius!
    2. Nocturnal Bob. I personally loved unstuffed, roadkill Bob too.
    3. Cloud on the Horizon
    4. Colorful Woodins

I’m not voting for knittygirlie’s Muertos today because I think her Ninjabun rounding up his carrots is too hilarious. That wins overall for me (if I can vote early…)!

  17. I vote for cannibalism, woodins, and skeleton snake and mouse. I love the elephant drinking medicine, it is reaaly cute! I like the woodins because they are in a big log and they are colorful and poping out. I love the skeleton snake and mouse because the one who knitted it is my mom and I like the sugar skulls in the background and the skeleton snake and mouse are really cute.

  18. Dia de los Muertos Snake and Mouse is really creative. It’s exactly the kind of twist on patterns I always wish I’d thought of. They’re all so wonderful, though. Rodent Roundup pushes all my cute buttons, too!

  19. This was hard… I tried to narrow it down to 3, but couldn’t. In order, I like the cloud, how ninjabun was fooled, dia de los muertos, & colorful woodins.

  20. I vote for Bob on a Branch, Snaky Dia de los Meurtos, and Rainy Cloud Suspended, but all are wonderful!

  21. I think there were many lovely entries, but I really dig the originality and personal touch in Snake & Mouse Dia De Los Muertos Altar by knittygirlie!!

  22. They are all supercute! My favourites would be:
    A Cloud on the Horizon (I love the juxtaposition of Rainycloud against a real cloudy landscape);
    Bob in the Wild (the flash somehow makes Bob look startled, and I really like the stripy wool);
How Ninjabun was fooled (the setting, the story, the combination of multiple patterns in one scene)

  23. I LOVE the “How Ninjabun was Fooled” and I also luv the story that accompanies it! All were amazing!

  24. I’m biased on this set since that’s my guinea pig (and mouse). He’s a texel and the hair on texels can be used for knitting, in case anyone is interested in having a new fiber to work with! It gets much longer than in the photo, and is curly like a lamb’s.

I like “A cloud on the horizon by knitfaced”–what a pretty photo!

  25. I think Ninjabun and the Great Carrot are awesome – I especially like the expression on carrot-friend’s face!

El Dia de los muertos is fantastic too.

  26. Here are my votes for this first batch:

-“How Ninjabun was Fooled” by snuffykin

-“Snake & Mouse Dia De Los Muertos Altar” by knittygirlie

-“A cloud on the horizon” by knitfaced

-“Bob in the wild” by lizzie j b

    Great stuff!

  27. They are all darling and creative!
    In this order, I like:
1)Snake & Mouse Dia De Los Muertos Alter by knittygirlie
2)Snake amd Mouse nature scene by neferstie
3)Mischievous Mouse smells a flower by mikkers!

  28. Hope I’m not to late… Here are my two favorites:

A cloud on the horizon by knitfaced (for the stunning photography)
Cannibalism? by giolou (for the pure humor of it)

  29. I think Ninjabun and the Great Carrot are awesome – I especially like the expression on carrot-friend’s face!

El Dia de los muertos is fantastic too.

  30. My favorites (in order)are:
A cloud on the horizon by knitfaced
    and
Snake & Mouse Dia De Los Muertos Altar by knittygirlie
They are both excellent. But if for voting purposes we can only have one..it has to be the rainy cloud one.
