Droplets

Droplets by JamFactory, which debuted earlier this year, are a great example of a reversible toy.

Right side up, they’re happy little guys (well, all but one of them are)…

…and upside down, they’re vury vury sad.

Either way, cute! You can get them as blind boxes at Crazy Label or at your local vinyl toy store.

Story of the Sweet Animals

I haven’t been a huge collector of the plastic Japanese miniatures that seem to only be gaining in popularity—most often food, furniture, and the like— but my ever-savvy mother-in-law Bonney introduced me over the weekend to her new collection of “Story of the Sweet Animals” miniature animal scenes that she got from this website. They’re amazing! Each blind box contains at least two adorable plastic animals, some darling plastic props (water, mushrooms, tree), and a little card backdrop scene.

Apparently you can connect the cards together to make a complete story.

Bonney bought a box of 10, so we spent a while ripping them open like it was a Japanese miniature version of Christmas. Unfortunately for me, there were no duplicates for me to take home, so I may have to buy some for myself. After all, according to the website, “Not only are the fun toys, but they are perfect as home décor.”

Of course! These would go perfectly with that new couch we just got.

Tiny Wooden Animals

Just returned from a lovely 4th of July visit with relatives in Maine. (It was cold enough at night to wear fleece to see the fireworks show!) My aunt and uncle there have the most beautiful old house, which they’ve decorated with carefully chosen antiques.

These little animals on a mantle particularly caught my eye during this visit. They are part of an antique Noah’s Ark set made in Germany. (The wooden ark was just outside the frame of my photo.)

If I had a fireplace and mantle of my own, I would want tiny wooden animals on it too.

Win These!

prize08_handrest

Aren’t these guys adorable? According the the tags, they’re hand rests to use when typing. But they also make cute blobby creatures in a pinch.

They’ll be included in the big box o’ awesome prizes to be given to the first place winner of the Mochimochi Photo Contest. You have until July 31st to enter, so… enter!

A a happy 4th of July to everybody in the US! I’ll be in Maine for the next few days.

My Newer Favorite Tee

My newer favorite tee has a lot in common with my older new favorite tee: they both came from a Graniph spree in Japan, they are both pink (not my favorite color), and they both depict cute animals who could fry you with their bionic eyes.

I’ve also already managed to stain this one, like I did the older one, with some ramen broth or something. Sad!

Sometimes It’s Hard to Get Things Done Around Here

A few of these little guys will be part of the prizes for the upcoming photo contest. Full details next week!

Bear Kacha Toy

How about another dose of cuteness?

In Japan I picked up a miniature capsule toy machine, somewhat akin to the Frog Style toy that I blogged about a while ago. But this one is Rirakkuma!

Some assembly is required, with stickers to decorate the outside of the machine and stickers to put on the inside of teeny tiny capsules (that actually open).

After assembly…

I love the detail involved with this toy. It even comes with a tiny clip that you can use to attach two capsule machines together, as in a bank of machines that you often see.

Turn the crank and the capsules pop out!

If you’re wondering where you can get this awesome toy, I have just one more, and you can WIN it by entering this year’s Mochimochi Photo Contest! I’ll be announcing all the details in early June (check out the details from last year’s contest here), but you can go ahead and start entering now by uploading your photos to the Mochimochi Friends Flickr pool.

Hello Kitty Edamame

My friend Kana just came back from a visit to Yamagata prefecture in Japan. Apparently that region is known for its delicious edamame, so I got the cutest cell phone strap as a gift!

Peas have an extremely high cute factor to begin with, so Hello Kitty peas are off the charts! The little pod is just about one inch long.
