Played Things
PiCTOBiTS
Aug 25th
A recent gaming obsession was PiCTOBiTS, the retro-style puzzle game for the DSi. It is addictive! Then frustrating! Then over. (I was sad when it was over.)
PiCTOBiTS is only available for the DSi, but you can read reviews of other cheap and free games for many systems (including your web browser) in the new biweekly Sawbuck Gamer feature that John put together on The A.V. Club website.
Plants vs Zombies
May 12th
Here is a new game from PopCap in which you plant cute plants that kill funny zombies, some of which wear pylons on their heads. I got to play it for about ten minutes last night, then John physically removed me from his computer.
It’s available as a download for Mac or PC for $20.
Henry Hatsworth in the Addictive DS Game
Mar 30th
My husband tossed me a new DS game a week ago that he thought I would like. Turns out I more than like it—there are huge blocks of time over the past two weekends that I kind of can’t account for now, as if I had blacked out. These were, of course, hours that I spent zombie-eyed and clutching my DS close to my face.
Henry Hatsworth In The Puzzling Adventure is deceptively simple, comprised of a combination of platform and puzzle games, but it’s challenging and, as I found, totally addictive. Instead of writing more about it, I have to get back to playing now.
Check out John’s review of Henry Hatsworth on the A.V. Club. (And if you’re really into gaming, check out his coverage of last week’s Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.)
Crayon Physics Deluxe
Jan 15th
For everyone complaining about how they don’t have an iPhone to play the stacking cats game or an Xbox 360 to play Castle Crashers, John’s latest A.V. Club review is on Crayon Physics Deluxe, a delightful game that you can download for your PC.
You might recognize it from this YouTube video from 2007, before the game was fully developed.
(You can use a mouse to play the game instead of a magical pen on your computer, of course.)
I haven’t played it yet myself (I don’t have Windows on my Mac), but it looks like so much fun that I’ll have to try it soon. You can download Crayon Physics Deluxe for $20 here.
Castle Crashers
Jan 9th
This is a fun multiplayer game that John and I have been playing lately.
Your partner will love the scatological humor and you will love the adorable deer. (Or vice versa.) You will both love fighting the bad guys together. I recommend it!
It’s a $15 download for the Xbox 360.
