Join me for Knitting LIVE NYC in January

I’ll be teaching knitting cats, unicorns, and all things stop-motion animation at Knitting LIVE by Vogue Knitting in January! Come join me and a slate of talented teachers and makers in NYC for a long weekend of all things fiber arts!

Here’s the schedule and class descriptions:

FRIDAY 1/26 10:30-11:30 am
LECTURE: STOP-MOTION ANIMATE YOUR KNITTING

Did you know that knitting and animation go together beautifully? Anna Hrachovec of Mochimochi Land will share how she turned her tiny knitted toys into animated stars of the internet and an upcoming television show, all with basic materials and a trial-and-error process. You too can use stop-motion animation to bring your knitted toys and other projects to life—it’s simpler than you may think! Whether your want to add some motion to your social media stories or make a mini movie with characters, this lecture will cover animation basics and tools that will set you up for animation fun.

FRIDAY 1/26 6:00-9:00 pm
CLASS: KNIT A “HANG IN THERE” CAT

Pick up basic toy knitting techniques while making a little friend who feels the way we all do sometimes: just hangin’ in there! This project-based class accommodates knitters who prefer to work flat, those who are comfortable knitting in the round, and those who are somewhere in between. We’ll cover basic increase and decrease stitches, mattress stitch, I-cord, simple embroidery, and more.

SATURDAY 1/27 6:00-9:00 pm
CLASS: TINY TOY KNITTING BASICS: UNICORNS AND RAINBOWS

In this class, we’ll knit a tiny unicorn together, covering all the techniques from start to finish: knitting on double-pointed needles, I-cord legs and horn, and embroidering a magical mane and tail. We’ll also go over how to use mattress stitch to shape knitted tubes into a little rainbow, so your unicorn can have a friend!

And of course, so many more classes are available from the biggest names in the knitting and crochet world.

Earlybird packages are available (though some are sold out!)—sign up at the Knitting LIVE website. I hope to see you in NYC!

“Hang in there” cat workshop in Ann Arbor August 12th!

We’re hanging’ in there in this hazy midwestern air this week 😶‍🌫️

On a less miserable note, I’ve got a pattern update and an upcoming “hang in there” workshop to share!

I’m planning to make kits for this persistent little guy in different cat colors. More on that soon!

And if you’re in the Ann Arbor area, I’ll be doing a workshop around this project later this summer! Please join me for a “hang in there” cat knitting event at the Ann Arbor District Library on August 12th! I’ve done quite a few workshops at this wonderful library over the years, and I’m thrilled for my post-covid return.

Plus! If you’re in the area and happen to be into classic Simpsons and/or pop culture trivia, you can join my husband, John, for a fun evening of trivia later in the day on August 12th.

One more thing—If you find yourself walking around Ann Arbor this summer, you might happen upon one of my Huge & Huggable friends, which are hanging out at various establishments around town as part of the library’s summer game. Say hi to Omelet if you run into him!

Join me for a virtual Fiberside Chat!

As you can see, I’m elated to have been invited by Longmont Yarn Shop to be a part of their virtual Fiberside Chat series later this month!

I’ll be chatting about how Mochimochi Land came to be, why it’s good for even the most serious knitters to knit toys, and how you can create any little person or creature you want with some toy knitting basics. I’ll also demonstrate my top tiny toy knitting techniques and will even get into some animation tips. Plus, your questions!

You can register for this event via the Longmont Yarn Shop website. See you on April 30th!

YarnCon recap

I just had a fabulous weekend at YarnCon!

I love this event—the friendliest people turn out, and it’s full of the DIY spirit thanks to all the lovely indie yarn dyers. And I did buy a whole lot of yarn… like, the most yarn I’ve ever bought at one time 😬

It was a blast putting together Mochimochi Land for the first time in 3+ years.🌳

Thank you to YarnCon, to my booth babe (and so much more) Kristine Brandel, and to everyone who came out 🥰

More photos after the jump!

YarnCon is April 1 and 2nd

If you’re somewhere with a direct flight to Chicago (that’s almost everywhere), I hope you’ll join me for YarnCon in a few weeks! There are classes happening March 30-31, then the marketplace runs April 1st and 2nd at Plumbers Hall, and that’s where you’ll find me and a new iteration of Mochimochi Land 🌈 I’ll also be selling kits and books and other fun stuff!

YarnCon is really all about the indie dyers: it’s THE place to see all the new exciting yarn innovations made by the most creative dye wizards. Get all the info from the YarnCon website. Can’t wait to see you there!

Enrollment NOW OPEN for Knit Stars Season 7

Today’s the day! You can now enroll in the Knit Stars Season 7 Masterclass Event, featuring courses by me and a slate of brilliant knitting teachers and artists! Enrollment is only open for ONE WEEK.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I’m so excited to finally share my new class all about knitting toys big and tiny. You’ll truly have the keys to the kingdom with this class—because you’ll knit a huggable castle and a bunch of characters to go in it! 👑
Plus you’ll come away with a better understanding of how toy designing and construction works, along with the basics on how to animate your knitted friends. All with video modules that you can watch at your own pace and keep forever.

Along with my masterclass, with Season 7 you’ll also get to virtually travel the world and take classes with a bunch of amazing Knit Stars who are masters of all things knitted: Lisa Borgnes Giramonti, Mieka John, Mary Martin, Lotta Lundin, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Summer Lee, Fatimah Hinds, Xandy Peters, Patty Lyons, and Lauren McElroy.

To learn more about what we’re all up to in Season 7, tune in to the webinar we’re doing at 2pm CT on Sunday, October 9. I hope to see you there!

Making this masterclass has been one of the coolest experiences I’ve had in my knitting journey, despite my weird face in this behind-the-scenes photo. 🤪 I hope you’ll join me! See the Knit Stars website to sign up!

Let’s get together at Knitting LIVE!

This February! In NYC! In person! Knitting LIVE by Vogue Knitting is retuning and I will be there! God willing!

Registration is now open, and you can sign up for a CLASS with me! I’ll be teaching a gnome knitting class for people who are a little familiar with circular knitting, as well as a unicorns and rainbows class for people who are newer to circular knitting/tiny toys.

I’ll also be in the art gallery/marketplace with Bluebirds of Crappiness! You can bring your own to add to a group project too! (More details are coming on that later I think.) There will probably also be a giant gnome!

Can you tell I’m excited? 😀 I hope to see your beautiful faces there!

Knit Stars Season 7 shoot is a wrap!

Last week I finished up my big 2-day Knit Stars Season 7 shoot! It was INTENSE—I’ve never had the opportunity to teach so much and so thoroughly before! Plus the interview and all the b roll for the “yarn story” intro were so fun—I’m excited to bring knitters into my world like never before. They even got footage of me working with clay! And animating! And looking thoughtfully at a mural in my neighborhood 🤔😂

Huge thanks to Brad, Shelley, Teresa, and everyone at Knit Stars for this wonderful experience! And to Kristine for being the best assistant! I’m so looking forward to seeing the results and all the other Season 7 stars’ courses 😆

Would you like to see my official project??

This is The Squeezable Kingdom! A cuddly castle and a cast of characters to live in him. My Knit Stars course will cover EVERYTHING that goes into knitting this project, plus tips on creating customized characters, a segment on animating your knitting, and a lifestyle segment that will give you a look into my glamorous knitted toy life here in Chicago.

Enrollment for Knit Stars will be open again in the fall. For now, you can learn more about it and get on the waitlist to sign up via my affiliate link.
