Tiny Chicken Knitting at Sifu

No, we didn’t teach tiny chickens how to knit (although I would love to see someone try!). Yesterday a nice group joined me for a class on knitting tiny chickens at Chicago’s Sifu Design Studio. Here are the fowl results!

It turns out that chickens can be cute in any color—even purple! It was also interesting to me to revisit this pattern, which I designed back in 2010, and which I hadn’t knitted myself since 2011, when Teeny-Tiny Mochimochi was published.

Prior to the class was a casual trunk show/ book signing during Sifu’s Sunday brunch get-together. It was a nice way to wrap up the Chicago Yarn Crawl.

Thank you to Sifu and to everyone who came! Everybody else can get the tiny chicken pattern here.

Rebecca’s Hungry Pooh Bear Bag

This long-armed Pooh is having quite a time trying to get at that honey!

totesadorbs_rebecca

Rebecca modified the Totes Adorbs pattern from Huge & Huggable Mochimochi to make her wearable Bear of Very Little Brain. So clever!

Seeing Rebecca’s Pooh prompted me to look up some quotes from Winnie-the-Pooh, and I was reminded of just how many wonderful turns of phrase are contained in A.A. Milne’s slender book. One of my favorites:

“If the person you are talking to doesn’t appear to be listening, be patient. It may simply be that he has a small piece of fluff in his ear.”

I’m giving away a free pattern to anyone whose Huge & Huggable mochis I share here on the blog this summer. Add your photos to our Flickr group to get in on that!

Jeanne’s Roland Meets a Monkey

Cute baby plus giant toy alert! Jeanne shared these photos of Roland the huge roly poly encountering a similar-sized creature.

roland_jeanne1
Roland seems suspicious of the familiar-looking leg that this creature is holding…

roland_jeanne2
…maybe rightly so!

This is just all kinds of cute, and makes me want to go borrow that baby for all my photo shoots. Thanks for sharing, Jeanne!

Have you knitted toys from Huge & Huggable Mochimochi? Share your photos of them in our Flickr group, and you’ll get a free pattern when I feature them here!

Audrey’s Literary Bromance

Audrey saw my recent call for Huge & Huggable mochi photos, and she and her brother did something a bit more ambitious!

Yes, everyone needs a friend—even giant knitted pencils. I love the way that Audrey used simple props and words to tell this cute and touching story!

The slideshow is impressive on its own, but I would also like to mention that Audrey is 11 years old, which makes it extra impressive. So she gets TWO free patterns for sharing her creativity with us!

Keep sharing photos of your huge mochis in our Flickr group—Everyone whose photo I share on the blog this summer will receive a free pattern of their choice!

Huey Li’s Cheeseburger Eddie

Hungry? Open wide…

bigmike_hueyli

No, way wider!

Huey Li shared this epic pic in our Flickr group recently, and it makes me giggle every time I see it, so I had to share.

It also makes me think that we need more photos of the BIG mochis from Huge & Huggable Mochimochi! So here’s the deal: You add your photos of Huge & Huggable projects to our Flickr group, and if I feature them here on the blog, I’ll send you a free pattern of your choice! (Photos with people about to eat the toy, or vice versa, get bonus points!)

And if you don’t have a copy of the book, you can get the Arthur pattern for free on the Lion Brand website (registration required).

Zdenija’s Empire-Building Bunnies

While there’s still a little half-priced Easter candy left on store shelves, I wanted to share again this awesome photo series from Zdenija, who entered our bunny-themed photo series contest in 2012. Zdenija titled her entry “Building an Empire,” and we were tickled by the clever way that her bunnies’ empire takes shape!

I love how this series demonstrates that you don’t need fancy props or a stunning location to come up with a really clever story. Something to keep in mind as you think about what to do for this year’s just-announced photo series contest! (This time, tiny bunnies as well as all manner of other mochis are invited to play!

Happy Bunny Passover

This is a re-blog, but fhmitchellaud’s Steinbunny family celebrating Passover is cute enough for another go-around!

tinybunnies_fhmitchellaud

This was one of the many fun entries that we got in our Tiny Bunny photo contest from 2012. (And the tiny baby bunny pattern is free!) And speaking of which, stay tuned for a big photo contest announcement coming soon…

Happy Passover to those who are celebrating this week!
