Classes and More at VK Live Seattle in April

UPDATE: I’ll be presenting a slideshow about the origins of Mochimochi Land on Sunday, April 7th at 11:30am at the stage in the Exhibit Hall.

Exciting news! The mochis and I are taking on Seattle in April for Vogue Knitting Live!

vklive_seattle

For the first time, I’m teaching a class at VK Live, so you can become an expert in knitting tiny toys with me! There is very limited space for the classes, so I recommend registering now if you can.

Plus! I’ll have a display in the art gallery area at VK Live, and when I’m not teaching, I’ll be there with books and kits and more.

I fell in love with Seattle when I visited a couple years back, and I’m so excited to be returning with lots of my little friends!

Rescheduled Pictoplasma NYC Talk Feb 8

In November I was scheduled to give a talk at the Pictoplasma NYC character art festival, then Hurricane Sandy hit the weekend before and the whole festival had to be postponed while the city recovered from the damage. Now the city is back up and running, the festival is back on, the talk is now happening February 8th!

My talk will be an overview of my journey into Mochimochi Land, and what it means to create character designs in the form of knitting patterns that others can recreate as their own.

The talk is open to people who have registered for the festival, but at the same time I’ll have some new knitted characters on display for everyone to see at a Pictoplasma group show at Cappellini in Soho. I can’t reveal what they are here… they’re just too top-secret!

Mochis Headed to VK Live NYC

Vogue Knitting Live returns to NYC January 18-20! And for the third year in a row, I’m bringing my knitted artwork and other mochi goodies to this epic knitting event!

vklive12_2

This year, I’m exhibiting Mochimochimochimochimochi, which was first shown at the Lion Brand Yarn Studio in 2011.

At last count, the piece is made up of 372 tiny mochis (plus two big guys swimming in them), but I’m planning to add more prior to and throughout the event, so who knows how large it will grow…

In addition to the artwork, I’ll have books and kits available, including two new top-secret kits! You can find me in the art gallery area of the marketplace. If you’re not already registered for VK Live, there is a fee to enter the marketplace.

Plus on Sunday the 20th I’ll be doing a book signing at the Knitty City booth at noon!

Here’s all the logistical info:

Snowmen Win, Free Snow Cones for All

gvs_vote2

The results are in, and Snowmen win! More than 600 of you voted in this very important election to determine which tiny mochi will represent Mochimochi Land for the next four years.

The gnomes shook the snowmen’s hands….

But then they gave a very bitter concession speech, so we’re not even going to show it here.

The snowmen have already gotten to work increasing snowball production…

Installing more icicles in underserved rural areas…

And expanding ice cream distribution for the less fortunate citizens of Mochimochi Land.

Big snowman government, here we come!

Gnomes vs Snowmen: The Vote

UPDATE: The results are in!

It’s time to vote! Get to the polls, Americans!

Today also happens to be election day in Mochimochi Land (purely by coincidence), and the decision is yours: Gnomes or Snowmen? Which party is best suited to represent tiny knitted toys for the next four years, or until they’re ousted by scandal?

gvs_vote

If you’re reading this, you’re an honorary citizen of Mochimochi Land, and the candidates want your vote!

Just in case you’re having trouble making a decision, the candidates have some negative campaigning to entertain you with.

Cavey’s American Cousins

UPDATE: The auction has ended, so I can finally reveal the full design! Prints are also available here.

caveycousins3

I’m excited to be a part of the upcoming show Cavey’s American Cousins!

caveycousins1

This is a one-night pop-up show featuring custom Caveys, the original character by Holly of A Little Stranger. Holly invited me to create a custom Mochimochi-style Cavey—I bet you can guess where I went with this one…

caveycousins2

That’s right, it’s a gnome-ified Cavey! (The full photo will be revealed soon.) This guy is going to be available via a 7-day eBay auction starting this Saturday, November 3rd, and finishing the night of the show. (See the Hey Cavey website for more info and updates.)

I wish I could make it to the one-night show in LA… I hope some of you who are in the area will turn out next Saturday and represent Mochimochi!

Book Signing at Rhinebeck this Weekend

Guess who’s going back to the Sheep & Wool festival at Rhinebeck, NY this weekend?

This sheep!

rhinebeck2012

Also, me! I’ll be there this Saturday in the author area of Building B with some Super-Scary friends and copies of my new book. (I’ll definitely be there in the afternoon, but I’m aiming to get there earlier if I can.)

I also hope to find some time to pet that sheep. (I don’t actually know if he’ll be there, but I bet there will be a sheep or two available for petting.)

Hope to see you there!

p.s. I’ll have gnome buttons for everyone who stops by!
