Easter Teeth

I’ve been a bit obsessed with the idea of knitting teeth lately—party because I recently read The Story of My Teeth, and partly because twice a day I’m wrangling my toddlers into the bathroom for a brushing. There’s something a vaguely easter-like about a tooth, so I decided to make some knitted teeth and toothbrushes to go in my kids’ baskets this year.

They weren’t the biggest hit ever, but they were not reviled. I’m calling it a win! And after I showed my 3-year-old that the brush could brush his tooth friend, he gave it a try himself for a few seconds, which totally melted my heart.

No pattern for these, at least for now. It was fun to knit something just for fun!

Happy Easter!

Tiny Leprechaun and Friends

The best way to catch a leprechaun is to knit one yourself!

Make March magical by knitting a tiny leprechaun, tiny pot o’ gold, tiny rainbow, and a rather normal-sized four-leaf clover for St. Patricks Day or just for a little luck! So gather your scraps of green yarn and celebrate the imminent-ness of spring!

The pattern collection is available as a $5 download in the Mochimochi Shop and also via Ravelry.

There are no rules in Mochimochi Land, so clothing is optional!

(If your personal pot of gold isn’t quite full, you can always find the clover pattern for free. And if you have a copy of my book Teeny-Tiny Mochimochi, there’s an earlier version of the tiny rainbow pattern in there!)

Thanks to Marilyn for tech editing and Amanda for testing!

Knitting Swift from Nick Jr’s Top Wing

I recently got to work with Nick Jr to make little knit versions of the characters from their series Top Wing!

This was my first time knitting an entire project on camera. I was actually sweating bullets throughout, even though I knew it would be sped up and wouldn’t really matter if I made a mistake.

This video shows me knitting Swift—figuring out how to do the color work on his head was the biggest challenge. I got to knit all four main characters, so there are more of these to coming to Nick Jr’s social media!

Want to Test Knit a Starter Owl?

UPDATE: The testing slots have all been filled! Thank you SO MUCH for the many responses—it was great fun to hear from so many knitters, and it makes me want to brainstorm a big crazy project that we all could get involved in. (Hmmm, leave a comment about it if you have an idea for what that could be…) The owl pattern is coming soon, so please keep your eyes peeled for it!

I’m looking for a small group of knitters to test knit this little owl!

(I asked Soupy to take a look at the pattern, but he was no help at all.)

Specifically, I’d like to have the pattern tested out by some knitters who are at the advanced-beginner level—people who know the basics like casting on, knitting and purling, and increases (kfb) and decreases (k2tog), but who are new to knitting toys or at least new to Mochimochi Land patterns. Circular knitting is not required.

Testing is easy—you just work the pattern and let me know how it goes, and send photos of your finished project.

The deadline for the test will be September 16th.

Once the test is complete, I’ll send you a credit to the Mochimochi Shop as thanks!

If you are interested and will have time to knit the owl by the deadline, email me with a little info about yourself and your knitting experience (and testing experience, if any). I may not be able to reply to all the emails, but I will post an update here when the testing slots are full.

Thanks in advance!

Buggy Mobile for Baby-to-be

My newest project is multidisciplinary—a bug-themed mobile for a baby on the way!

We’re expecting a baby girl to make her debut any day now. Ideally after I finish making this mobile, but we shall see!

Things may be a bit quieter than usual this fall while I take some time off, but I have some help with the shop, so shipping should more or less proceed normally.

The last time I made a mobile, it was lion themed for Leo, who is now 20 months old. It seems like last month that I was working on it!

Six Little Lions

Update: I’ve had some inquiries about whether I’ll make a pattern for these guys. Maybe someday! Let me know in the comments if you’d like that.

We now have six little lions to greet our baby when he comes next month!

I’m happy that I was able to come up with six mane variations. But making variations on a simple theme is one of my favorite things to do, so this has been a fun project. (If anyone is still wondering, these guys are about the size of a softball—not choking hazards like all my other tiny projects!)

Today is actually my 10th anniversary—10 years married to my best friend is a pretty good life, and now seems like a perfect time to be adding a third to our family. Just a little more than a month to go!
