Hot Dog!

How many hot dogs have you eaten so far this summer? The number might be lower if they all looked like this guy…

tinyhotdog_nodice1

I think the mini version made by NoDice is way cuter than the original! Here he is close up.

tinyhotdog_nodice2

Great attention to detail.

I googled it, and it looks like the Hot Dog Man statue is available in various sizes to hot dog joint owners looking to drum up business. (Good luck with that, I say!)

Summer’s almost halfway over, so here are a couple more tiny hot dogs from the Mochimochi Friends Flickr group to see us through.

From Starparty2000:

Great photo!

And from Momshoo:

Eep!

The Tiny Hot Dog pattern can be found in Teeny-Tiny Mochimochi. And remember to add your photos of Mochimochi knits to the Flickr group so we can all see! They’ll also automatically be entered in our big photo contest this fall.

Jill’s Creepy Couch Companion

Something with tentacles has been keeping me very very busy these past couple of weeks. I’m afraid I can’t say anything more about it than that, but it’s been reminding me of this creepy photo that Jill Watt took of her Grouchy Couch and a mysterious living room guest…

grouchycouch_jillwatt

I love the surreal spookiness of this image! The miniature window complete with curtains is a nice touch too.

I believe the creature behind the couch is a design from Hansi Singh. And the pattern from Grouchy Couch can be found in Knitting Mochimochi.

Unexpected design combos are so much fun, don’t you think?

Tiny Beaver by Knitjvf

How adorable is this tiny beaver!

tinyreindeer_joan

He was made by Knitjvf, who used the Tiny Reindeer pattern (from Teeny-Tiny Mochimochi) as a base for her little wood muncher. And you see what she did with knitting needles for trees? So clever!

One of the awesome things about teeny-tiny knits is the way that just a few alterations can transform a small shape into a new creature. If you’ve made a fun Mochimochi mod, don’t forget to share a photo of it in our Flickr group!

By the way, for those of you waiting to see Tiny Sumo Wrestler in a fight: I thank you for your patience! It’s been a busy week. but he will be wrestling before long…

K2tog Forever

June is the big month for flowers and rings and adorable wedding things! It melts my heart a little bit when I hear about people using Mochimochi designs to make special wedding gifts and favors. Here are a few recent brides and grooms from the Flickr group!

Goblinqueen10 made an entire Mochi-fied wedding party for her sister’s big day. I especially like the salt-and-pepper hair of the father of the bride!

gnomadknitter recently revisited the Las Vegas chapel where she was married 11 years ago, and brought along knitted versions of the happy couple for a photo op. So sweet!

Sarahknits knitted a blue-eyed pair of lovebirds this month…

And pbjam421 made her friends a plant-and-fiber gift for their botanic garden wedding!

Many happy wishes to everyone who is celebrating a wedding or anniversary this month!

Denise’s Sculpey Grass

I was a huge Sculpey user when I was in high school—that’s really when I was figuring out that I loved to make three-dimensional characters. So when Denise sent me this photo of her little Sculpey grassies (inspired by my free pattern Grass), I got all full-circle nostalgic about it!

grass_denise

It’s also exciting to see a Mochimochi designs rendered into a non-knitted medium. I would love to see more of that!

Denise was also the winner of our 2nd Mochimochi Photo Contest back in 2008, with her adorable photo of Stackable Cats playing slug checkers. It still makes me giggle!

Balloons and Baboons to the Moon

This weekend my mom and I were enjoying a relaxing drink at a bar when we were startled by a loud BANG that came from the next table over. It was a twisty animal balloon, sitting by itself, that had popped for no apparent reason. (It had come with a group of kids, because this is Brooklyn where bars are all ages all the time.)

Balloons are so fascinating—they can be sweet and airy, twisty and violent, goofy or graceful. Here’s my favorite ballon image that I found recently (via Architizer), of one of the first balloons used in the Macy’s Day Parade.

tinyballoons_felix

Felix seems a bit heavier than his helium-filled counterparts of today!

I was happy to read all the many different tiny balloon poems that you all came up with over the weekend—some were charming and cute, some were a little sad, and many were ludicrously funny. (It quickly became obvious that balloons and baboons were meant to be in poems together.)

There were so many great entries that it was impossible to choose just one winner, but in the end, John and I narrowed it down to two.

you are fat and round
full of air and maybe spit
careful of those pins

That sweet balloon haiku was by Rachel! And here’s our other winner:

I had a lovely afternoon
Running with my red balloon
Until I tripped and let it go
It drifted up; left me below

Then dear Anna heard my cries
And felt a tear in her own eyes
So she knitted all the night and day
For yarn balloons don’t fly away

That one was by Johnna! (And I promise I didn’t pick it just because it had my name in it, although that was a flattering touch!)

Both of these poets win the PDF pattern for Jumbo Gnome

If you haven’t please check out the other wonderful entries in the comments on Friday’s post. Stay tuned for a little more fun with balloons this week!

Cowboy Zombie by Withmyneedles

Ladies: do you go for plainspoken, outdoorsy types who will love you for your brains? Then Cowboy Zombie just might be the man of your dreams!

tinyzombie_withmyneedles

Withmyneedles made this little green guy, gave him a custom hat, and plunked him down on a “zombiedillo.” Yee-arrrggghh!

(The Tiny Zombie pattern can be found in the Mochimochi Shop as part of the Tiny Collection 4 and also as a kit, and the Tiny Armadillo pattern is in Teeny-Tiny Mochimochi.)

Add your photos of Mochimochi knits to our Flickr group—they’ll might get featured here on the blog, and they’ll automatically be entered in our next photo contest!
