Grass En Français

A landmark event just occurred in Mochimochi Land: a pattern has been translated into another language!

Christhalinette, a knitter in France, was inspired to make the pattern for Grass accessible to non-English-speaking French knitters. So she published a full translation on her blog!

The idea of translating my patterns into other languages actually hadn’t occurred to me much, but I love the thought of that many more people being able to make Grass. My three or so years of French in high school didn’t prepare me for reading knitting patterns in French, but I’m sure Christhalinette did a great job. Thank you Christhalinette!

I don’t know what it is about this particular pattern, but so far it has been altered for knitting in the round (unfortunately the blogger who did this shut down his blog, so if anyone wants to try again, please do!), modified for crochet, and translated into French. I can’t wait to see what’s next for it!

Let’s Stack Some Cats!

Yes, the Stackable Cats are finally here! This simple pattern includes three sizes for maximum stacking fun. Techniques include provisional cast on, knitting in the round on double-pointed needles, short rows and mattress stitch.

Mochimochi Land Profile on Venuszine.com

One of the strange things about vacations is that stuff happens while you’re away! Much of it is just work piling up, of course, but sometimes there’s a pleasant surprise mixed in with the multiplying “to-dos.” Such is the case with a new profile of Mochimochi Land on Venuszine.com!

Venuszine.com is the website of the hip magazine Venus Zine, which covers a refreshing mix of women in music, art, film, fashion, and DIY culture. Contributor Sara Graham, who is an avid crocheter herself, just happened to be at the Martha Stewart taping that my toys and I attended in February, and she got in touch with me shortly after that.

I’m extremely flattered by Sara’s nicely written profile about my work, and it’s an honor to be presented on Venus Zine’s website along with so many other fascinating women in art and DIY culture. Thank you Sara!

Mochimochi Display in New London, NH

I kind of feel like I’m doing a lot of “me” talk on the blog lately, but I’ve just had a lot of things going on recently that I’m excited about. Please bear with me for one more!

Bonney was kind enough to arrange for me to put my toys on display at the public library in New London, New Hampshire this past weekend. They have a nice, big display case, so I stuffed it with ALL of my toys!

I’ve been amassing these guys on various shelves and counters in my apartment over the past year, so it was a lot of fun to have them all together in one place and looking so organized. The library staff were very nice and just let us do our thing and take as much time as we needed to arrange everything (about two hours). By the time we left, the toys had attracted a small group of wide-eyed 5-year-olds, so I called the effort a success.

These ended up being my two favorite shelves:

The library itself is really beautiful—I was a little surprised I’d never been there before. If you happen to live in the area, I hope you’ll swing by and check out the display while it’s up! (I think my toys will be there for at least a month or so.)

Announcing Butterfull!

Just two days left until spring is officially here, and Mochimochi Land is getting a head start with a brand-new pattern: Butterfull, the world’s fattest butterfly!

Butterfull knits up quickly, with techniques including i-cord, mattress stitch, and duplicate stitch. And nothing says “spring” like a bouquet of dead flowers, right?
