Delicious Dishes

I am so in love with these plates by artist Lisa Grue that are now on exhibit at gallery hanahou.

The plates are Royal Copenhagen porcelain and hand-printed by Lisa. The neon pom-poms are just the perfect touch too!

This is just part of Lisa’s show “Owls Have More Fun,” which is up through March 26th. You can also download a catalog of the plates from the gallery website. (Click on the link below the “go shopping” button.)

It’s kind of a dream of mine to make plates someday. But I probably can’t hope to make any this awesome!

All Wound Up

I am way too excited about my new swift and yarn winder that I got only recently. (I didn’t even know the wooden contraption was called a swift, that’s how clueless I can be about knitting-related stuff.)

winder

See all that pretty green Cascade yarn in the bottom drawer over there? I wound all of it into neat balls the other night, and I could have kept going for hours! Winding yarn seems like the kind of thing that people in the 19th century did for fun at county fairs.

Anyway, the yarn is for a very exciting project that should, with any luck, take shape this fall. For now it just looks like a big thick blanket.

By the way, a big thank-you to Brooklyn General for being host to a great Mochimochi class and trunk show yesterday!

Tiny Things at Saffron

After visiting Brooklyn Flea on Saturday I stopped by Saffron down the street, and I was delighted to see this wonderful display of my Tiny Things that they have for sale.

It’s been lots of fun to finally have designed projects that are quick enough to justify selling a few. And they’ve been selling!

If you’re ever in Brooklyn, please stop by this shop! They have fresh flowers, vintage clothing, jewelry, and a few other little things handmade by locals. (I also blogged about Saffron when my friend Kana opened it last year.)

Jell-O-Scape

I was wowed when I saw these photos of a Jell-O San Francisco done by Liz Hickok on Beautiful Decay last week.

On her website, she describes how she makes the molds, then lights them from below and photographs them for exhibition. Because they fall apart so quickly, many of her exhibitions are comprised only of photos and videos of the Jell-O sculptures.

Aren’t they incredible? I love the idea of a knitted landscape too (something I’m in the beginning stages of working on), so I’m finding this project especially inspiring!

Grizzly Bear in Claymation

I recently started taking a stop-motion animation class, just because I’ve always been interested in it. We haven’t gotten to the point of actually animating anything yet, but I’ve been especially on the lookout for good examples of it, and I just came across this video for Grizzly Bear’s “Ready, Able” (from one of my favorite albums from last year). It’s a great song and a beautiful (though somewhat creepy) animation.
