Cat Measuring Cups

How cute are these measuring cups!

These were a Christmas gift from my brother-in-law, and I’ve been meaning to do a post about them since January. I don’t have a lot of space for displaying cute stuff in my apartment, so it’s extra fun when I do get something worth making a space for. It’s also fun to think about measurements in terms of cats instead of cups. Add 2 cats of sugar and blend well!

I believe they came from Modcloth.

Giant Ball of Yarn!

Soupy told me about a dream he had the other day…

No, this is not a camera trick. But it’s also not completely made of yarn. It’s going to be part of my new show in Berlin! This big ball of yarn will become a kind of sun at the center of a fiber solar system, and it’s going to be knitting an asteroid belt out of itself… Anyway, it’s going to be cute.

The show will be part of the Character Walk of exhibitions in the Pictoplasma Festival, which is happening April 6-9 in Berlin. And I get to go to Berlin for the first time! Unfortunately, Soupy has an important business meeting and can’t come.

But I think I know what he’ll be dreaming about for a while.

Cat Glamour Shots

My sister-in-law Jenna is the sweetest—as a Chrismas present to her brother (and also to me by default), she took some gorgeous photos of Soupy and Nipsey. We had a difficult time narrowing them down, so we will soon look like weirdos with a wall full of cat photos in an otherwise photo-less apartment. Here are some of my favorites.

As you can probably tell (and as I’ve mentioned here recently), Jenna is a professional photographer. Can you believe this was her first time photographing cats? We’re going to treasure these forever.

Just Making Friends

I’ve just started going through all the photos in this year’s contest, and I have to say, there are loads of great ones this year! There is definitely a fun sub-category of photos that feature cute pets along with knitted creatures, so I thought I’d share one of my own.

Soupy is always ready to help with my knitting projects. When I was working on my installation this summer, I often had to shut him and his brother Nipsey out of the room, because I was basically building a wonderland of cat toys that they weren’t supposed to touch. It must have been torture for them, and they let me know it by banging on the door incessantly until I got my work done and put everything back in plastic bags. I love how innocent Soupy looks in this picture, as if he isn’t thinking about pouncing on his new train friend as soon as my back is turned.

Channel SOUPY

Like many cats, Soupy is a cardboard box fan. We also like to think of him as the owner of a media empire, so we started cutting holes into boxes to make it look like he’s on TV.

In his nightly show, he likes to espouse his latest cat conspiracy theories, most of which point to the toilet as the root of all evil. (The toilet is Soupy’s other obsession in addition to boxes.)
