Bunny Facts: Amami Rabbit

The Amami rabbit is a small-eared endangered bunny.

Living on the Amami islands in Southern Japan, the Amami rabbit is an ancient species of rabbit that has been endangered because since the 1990s because of deforestation and the introduction of the mongoose, which was brought to the area in the late 1970s to control the population of a poisonous snake.

Japan is making some efforts to save the Amami rabbit, including making it a priority of the Invasive lient Species Act.

Maureen sent over this adorable photo of James and Sara, saying that it’s a good thing their cuteness outweighs their “yarn-chewing nature.” I didn’t know bunnies had an interest in yarn, but maybe they have that in common with cats?

Fuzzy Fiber Bunnies

This bunny seems very proud of her eggs!

KnottyKnitter40 on Ravelry made Babette the Easter Bunny using needle felting. That’s a technique I’ve never dared to try myself, so I’m impressed. (And I love those little eggs.)

And this bunny is way more fun than a cup of Earl Grey!

Bookette crocheted him from Roman Sock’s pattern for Tea Cup Bunnies.

His name is Petit Astrolapin, and he’s a character from Mr. Clement’s graphic novel When We Fall. (I haven’t read it, but now I want to!) The vinyl toy is available from Kidrobot.

Moon Buns

It just wouldn’t be right to have Bunny Week without a Moon Bun!

Moons Creations was nice enough to send over a photo of this one dressed up as a lamb. I think we’ll have to call in a mathematician to determine the degree of cuteness going on here. Check out the Moons Creations Etsy shop to see more and get your own!
