In association with this year’s Pictoplasma NYC festival, gallery hanahou is excited to bring you the second installment of Anna Hrachovec’s miniature knit world, Mochimochi Land. The battle begins November 3rd, as a part of the Pictoplasma Character Walk!

Show dates: November 3rd – 18th

gallery hanahou will soon be overtaken by the tiny gnomes, snowmen, and the fuzzy bunnies that inhabit Mochimochi Land! Fiber artist Anna Hrachovec will create a miniature epic battle scene rife with cuteness and chaos as sworn enemies, Gnomes and Snowmen, fight it out for control over carrot supplies and herds of cuddly bunnies, with as much pathos and violence as knitted toys can summon.

Inspired by the 11th century Bayeux Tapestry depicting the Norman conquest of England, the installation is a study of iconic characters and their physical limits within the technical constraints of knitting. The three dimensional, linear scene plays out along the walls of gallery hanahou in a series of 40+ panels.

Melting snowmen, flattened gnomes, candy cane fights, and a super-secret third invader are just some of the fun that awaits…

We hope you can experience the chaos that will ensue at the opening on November 3rd!

  10. Oh I wish I could come see the show in person!!! PLEASE take tons of photos – I especially love the shot of the gnomes with torches melting the snowmen into puddles. Love your sense of humor! :)

  11. Oh!!! I wanna go~ but I live in Asia…. I am cheering for the snowmen so the melting snowmen sad me sad (but i still laughed). Love it~

    I’m curious, how many ounces of stuffing did it take for those gnomes?

  17. Abby, I can’t say exactly how much stuffing I use for the gnomes, but it’s just a pinch for each. However, I do find myself going through about one big bag every couple of months!

    SNOWMEN! You must AVENGE your snowmen friends and family, who were brutally murdure- er…melted, by those horrendous gnomes!!

    DISCLAIMER : Your gnomes are by no means horrendous, in fact they me squeal and die of cuteness overload….but I must effectively encourage the snowmen! ^^

    Anna, do you get tired of making the same thing over, and over again? I know I would–after making probably 5!

  22. Somehow, I don’t really get tired of it. I think it’s the fact that every time I make a new gnome, he has a personality of his own, and that makes it exciting for me every time. Of course I don’t usually spend all day making them, but I make them 3 or 4 at a time.
