Tubby Has Arrived!

Tubby is finally ready to make a splash in the Mochimochi Shop!

This knitted bathtub is the first Mochimochi Land pattern created by popular demand. (He was originally meant to be a one-of-a-kind, but his loyal fans insisted that he receive pattern status.)

So because you asked for Tubby, now you can make your own Tubby! This fun pattern consists of simple techniques of knitting in the round and mattress stitch.

UPDATE 2/5/08: By the way, for those who are on my mailing list and received a mysterious announcement email with no subject, I apologize. My Mail program is doing strange things to my emails once they leave my outbox. Hopefully the next one will have a subject line!

  1. Oh my GOD, I’ve been waiting for Tubby! I swear, I almost *never* buy knitting or crochet patterns, because I have soooo many books and magazines and, quite frankly, there are so many good free ones out there… but yours, I just have to break down once in a while and get yours! I recently bought Luvgun, and tomorrow I’m going to get Tubby. Because I *must* have a knitted bubble bath, I must! Thank you. You’re amazingly creative, and I love that you choose to share that with all of us.

  2. Horray! Tubey is out! There is always so much excitement around your pattern releases, they are like mini-celebrities!

  3. Tubby is so cute that I bought him immediately! One question — in the model, are the bubbles’ eyes embroidered on with French knots, or are they seed beads?

  4. Hi Gina, thanks so much for your purchase!

The eyes on the bubbles are embroidered on, though they’re not French knots, but just two or three of the tiniest stitches for each. I’ve found that’s the best way to make small eyes on knitting, since it’s not as taut as fabric and so French knots have a habit of getting lost in the yarn when you pull them though. Let me know if that needs more explaining!

  5. Thanks Anna! That makes sense. I hope my little eyes turn out as nice as yours. I’ll let you know how things turn out.

  6. Tubby is one of the cutest things I think I’ve ever seen. The bubbles absolutely *make* this. How is it that they all only have eyes, yet I swear I can tell they are smiling???

  7. What a cool world this is where someone can come up with such a fun thing to make! thANKS FOR sharing and making me smile!
