Mochimochi Yarn!

How cool is this: Rhichard at Koigu created a colorway especially for Mochimochi Land! It’s not every day that someone designs a special variegated yarn just for me, so I was thrilled when this package arrived of my doorstep the other day.

I think there’s something very optimistic about this colorway, which I love. It’s definitely special enough to warrant a new toy—any ideas?

If you’re not familiar with Koigu, they make a wonderful sock yarn that comes in brilliant colors (I’ve used it to make many of my Tiny Things), and you can find it in many yarn stores.

Thank you, Rhichard!

  1. Based on the colorway, I’m thinking a nice spring flower…or a little tree with leaves and branches and…

    Meh, what do I know?

  2. My vote is something representing fall . . .oh! How about a house? You know – a mini house with a big smile! It could go very well with Campy – they would be nice and warm together, as long as Campy doesn’t make Housey burn down. :D
    It sounds so cute!

  3. I’ve often wondered what fingering weight yarn you were using, in all those great colors. Until the sock knitting craze finally hit Utah last year, sock yarns were hard to find, of any variety, except online. I’ll have to check them out. Like I need more yarn.

It does have a sort of “fall” feeling to it. Tiny things are likely to end up all one color, or only barely into the next color. Fall leaves would work great.

  4. I am going to stray from the toy side and say fingerless gloves!

Or, if you do want to stick to toy side how about a mochimochi whale?

    ^-^

  5. Wow, great colorway! I have never used Koigu before. I must remedy that when I am off of my yarn diet in June.

  6. Forgot to mention that a friend of mine is making the Babette Blanket out of ALL Koigu. It’s going to be awesome.

  7. Do you remember that Fruit Stripe gum that was always lurking at the checkout in the grocery store? I loved that stuff. LOVED it. And this colorway reminds me of that pack of gum and better, more innocent and charming times. :D Fabulous!

  8. These are some great ideas—thanks, everybody! I’m leaning toward some kind of happy earthy monster guy for this yarn right now. We’ll see what happens!

  9. The yarn is absolutely beautiful, and I thought that maybe you should make a tiny Kraken, or also known as a tiny giant squid.

  10. It’s definitely loverly yarn :-) There are some fun ideas in this thread. Can’t wait to see what new creation is born out if this!

  11. Congrats! What an honor! That colorway reminds of those delicious swirly lollipops sold at zoos and amusement parks. You know which I mean? On the long stick, swirled tightly. Yum.
