A couple of days ago I had the idea to try knitting a piano. Once I got into it, my to-do list for the week went out the window, because now it is National Knit a Piano Week in this household.
Many questions have arisen in the process. What is the best non-boring color for a piano? How many keys should a silly nonrealistic representation of a piano have? And of course: lid or no lid?? (That last one has yet to be resolved.)
In my tiny designs, I aspire to make everything as simple as possible, which is a fun challenge. It’s also fun to go a bit in the opposite direction sometimes, and try to make something that involves some geometry and math. (Not swatching, though. Let’s not get carried away.)
Probably by the end of the week I’ll know if this piano has potential for a pattern, or if it was just a fun experiment in knitted instruments. I’ll keep you updated!
I am so glad to see that other people are easily distracted. I have a “must knit before xmas” list. yet I went to my stash and found some glorious forgotten yarn and all I want to do is use it. It is so not on my list! Hope your Piano comes out!
I can’t wait to see this when it’s finished. What a great idea. I’m wondering where the eyes will be!
Looks like a fun project! I am crossing my fingers that it ends up a pattern.
I love the idea of National Knit a Piano Week! Hoping this one becomes a pattern!
Will the pattern be out before Christmas? If it is or even if it isn’t, I’m getting it!
Well if it does become a pattern, the process of putting that together and getting it tested would be a pretty lengthy one, so it would definitely be a 2012 debut!
I wish I could test it! I guess it will be kind of like Flushie–diagrams that take forever to make!
So awesome! Can’t wait to see it when it’s finished!
I hope it’s a grand piano?!!
Wow, your creativity has no bounds! I would never be able to design a knitted piano…
I think you should name him Bart, after the inventor of the piano, Bartolomeo Cristofori. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piano
I gave up on to do checklists, I get easily distracted by Yarn and cute things to knit. It is like that “oooh shiny” moment and it has to be tried right then.
I agree! Its like a puppy…..”I love you, you are my… Squirrel….friend”
That is a very bright blue! You should have some tiny creature playing it like one of your snowmen for the holidays. :)
That’s so cool! I love the color! You should knit one in lime green next. :)
I hope this becomes a pattern! I would also love to test it for you!
So cool! Will test pattern in moderate knit skill, just say the word! PLEASE make a pattern! I love mochi mochi land!
I can just imagine someone taking that to bed! Singing their own lullaby! Can we have a 6 inch pianist too? :D
it should actually play. now that would be cool
