Tiny Balloons

Update: See the two winning poems here!

I’ve had balloons on the brain all week! I think it has something to do with the hot weather we’ve had recently. After taking my new obsession to Pinterest for a few days, I decided to make my own version.

A little handful of happiness!

Let’s have a tiny balloon caption contest, shall we? There’s something poetic about balloons, so I want to hear your tiny balloon poems in the comments (one comment per person please). I’ll pick my favorite on Monday, and the winner will get….

  4. Balloons travel miles over distant lands
With little control of direction in their hands

Their appearances make people say “Oh My!”

Who came to earth riding a space typhoon

    In the Sky
I watch them as the sail right by

  14. There once was a red balloon,
Who wanted to go to the moon,
    He went into NASA,
    Where they were playing canasta,
To find they no longer went zoom.

    He was quite disgruntled,
    Not to be summoned,
    To explore the final frontier,
    He even shed a tear,
But he stayed at home and made a puppet.

But the puppet had a mind of its own,
    It didn’t like being alone,
    It loved the balloon,
    He made it swoon,
And soon they went on a honeymoon

  16. I had a lovely afternoon
    Running with my red balloon
Until I tripped and let it go

So she knitted all the night and day
For yarn balloons don’t fly away

  17. There was once a Tiny Balloon
Whose dream was to float to the moon
But he couldn’t for a while cuz he was stuck
His string was caught on a chicken that went cluck!

Freeing Tiny Balloon and letting him fly
He saw the moon and was going to reach the top
When unexpectedly he just went POP!

  18. Now this here’s the Ballad of Billy Balloon
    Who got in some trouble
    In Mexico, Cancun!

See, he went to a saloon
    Where he met a Baboon
    Who liked to play darts
    At exactly twelve noon

    They got in a fight
But that Ballon was quite fast
    He dodged the attack
But how long could he last?

He was caught by a Goon
Who tied his tail to a spoon
But that failed to stop Billy
    Who started singing a tune

See that Balloon loved to croon
But he only sang once in a blue moon
Cause the sound that came out
Was worse than a broken Bassoon

Yes, he admitted he looked a buffoon
    But soon his new friends
On the floor, were all strewn

    His singing had been
    Well, quite opportune
But his helium was now low
    Much, much too soon

So he went on his way that bright afternoon
To live out his short life in the sun-soaked lagoon
He ate lunch all alone at the local Greasy Spoon
And then swam in the ocean til he looked like a prune!

    Umm.. The End! ; )

  19. Balloons want to fly,
But we refuse to let them,
    When they fly away,

    And continue to the sky,
    Out of sight,”Good-bye…”

  25. There once was a group of balloons of all sizes
One day they had a party and gave out prizes

His friends were sad, and buried his remains
And wrote him a speech, ‘Goodbye Jeremy McCains’

  26. Tiny balloons floating in the sky,
No bigger than teaspoons soaring oh so high.
Watching from below, sitting on the sand
Are all the Teeny-Tinies in Mochimochiland.
They ooh and ah at the floating knit balls,
Inspired by pictures from Pinterest walls.
Made by dp needles size one,
And vibrant yarn oh so fun,
    Tiny balloons, never bland,
Are a little happiness in your hand.

  27. Balloons, balloons,
    They fly in the sky
they keep on going and going
and when kids let them go
    they start to cry

    Helium, helium,
Make them stick to the ceiling
    make your voice sound funny

  28. Jump perchance to fly
but I am not up in the sky
    How can this be?
    Helium set me free.
    I can go higher
    and be a real flier
with tiny balloons tied to me.

Hi Anna! Cute pattern. These would make a really cute birthday present topper. Will you make the pattern available in your shop?

  29. In the store of party hats and supplies
You walked in, liking searching for a puppy at the pound.
There were so many calling with shiny foils and sayings,
And you searched diligently through all:
Too fat, too short, Not an anniversary, not a dinosaur—
Maybe combinations— this has to be perfect—
What does a green balloon say different than a yellow—
You’ve been two six party places, it needs to be right—
But then you looked at me, Happy Birthday.
    I swelled with pride
given a breath just for you
Ribbon and all, you carried me high.
Crossing the street, a cat stuck in a tree lunged out for me,
and a little girl was filled with relief.
Stuffed in a car, I danced in containment,
And when you were pulled over by a cop
    I kept hitting your head
    making you annoyed
    making him smile
you got off without a ticket.
And walking up to the hospital,
To see the one Happy Birthday’s were due,
But then a little girl in a wheel chair asked you
    Can I hold it?
    And you complied,
But small fingers and strong wind
    Bye bye.
As I gazed down at you gazing up at me
    I saw you worried.
As I floated, I saw you with Birthday Girl in a white gown,
Your sad look as you explained,
And I saw your impressions of a cat, a cop—
    She laughed,
    And you laughed,
And I laughed at the conversation I saw more than heard,
    Floating up into the clouds,
You pointed me out to Birthday Girl,
    And you both waved.
    The relief on your face.
A gift better than just rubber and helium.

  30. Balloons can float up
    Balloons have many colors
    Balloons can be popped

  32. Balloons fly high way up in the sky
A wonder that Anna has shared.
The best tiny knitter who ever dared.

  33. There once was a bunch of balloons
And all but one were the color of prunes.
    Then, one day,
In the late heat of May,
They decided to fly to the Moon!

  34. There once was a little balloon,
Who was terrified of a harpoon.
But one day the trigger was pressed,
    And the balloon became suppressed.
    Now it was nothing more,
    Than a tiny rubber ball.

  35. Contrary to popular belief, balloons do not want to go to the moon, they’d much rather spend time on the beach enjoying the ocean breeze and hanging out with beach balls.

  36. Hi Anna
I so want to share one of my favourite poems with you, which is not by me, unfortunately, but by e.e. cummings:

    “who knows if the moon’s
    a balloon,coming out of a keen city
in the sky–filled with pretty people?
( and if you and I should

    get into it, if they
should take me and take you into their balloon,
    why then
we’d go up higher with all the pretty people

than houses and steeples and clouds:
    go sailing
away and away sailing into a keen
    city which nobody’s ever visited,where

    always
    it’s
    Spring) and everyone’s
in love and flowers pick themselves”

  37. There once was a tiny balloon,
Who was frightened of being harpooned,
    So it tapped a baboon,
    And grabbed a prune,
And together they flew to the moon!

  38. With Photoshop magic! I suspended them with a piece of yarn, then I photoshopped that out later.

  39. Little tiny balloons
    flying around the blooms,
    showing their beautiful colors degrees,
    confusing all the little bees.
