December is such a hectic month up until the end, and so I’ve found myself choosing music more often over podcasts and TV when I’m knitting. The right album for my mood lets me get into a groove of extended concentration on what’s taking shape in my hands, which is particularly helpful when I’m in the process of designing something.
Here are the albums I’m enjoying lately, some old and some new.
New music (2012 favorites):
Put Your Back N 2 It by Perfume Genius
America by Dan Deacon
Ekstasis by Julia Holter
Horses by Patti Smith
Crazy Rhythms by The Feelies (I’ve blogged about this one before)
Fabulous Muscles by Xiu Xiu (explicit)
Privilege EPs by Parenthetical Girls
On another note, the beginning of the year seems like a great time to refresh my running mix. These are some recent (single track) additions that I’ve made, and I would love more suggestions:
Gangrimes Style by Dan Deacon
Honey Bunny by Girls
Handsome Devil by The Smiths
Stay Useless by Cloud Nothings
Came Out of a Lady by Rubblebucket
What are you going to exercise to in the new year? And what music, podcasts, TV, etc. are you knitting to as 2012 winds down? Please share in the comments!

I wish I could say I did regular exercise. Right now all that I do is walking and cleaning (hey, cleaning can be a full body workout, right?), and most of that is done to the sounds of silence. If not silence, I’m a L’Arc~en~Ciel kind of gal, still.
^ I second that, I don’t exercise much, but I love listening to music while knitting! And I like listening to L’Arc~en~Ciel!
I picked up Teeny Tiny MochiMochi recently so I’m knitting a lot of tiny creatures!
I recently discovered the show Jericho on Netflix and I’m working my way through it – it’s very intriguing!
Happy knitting in 2013!
I knit while watching big band, new girl, 2 broke girls…
I always love listening to Harry Potter audiobooks when I’m knitting :) Or I knit while watching the Harry Potter movies!
Most times I have a tendency to catch up on any shows I have recorded or anything that catches my fancy on Netflix.
Unfortunately I have been lazy with my music and have been sticking to stuff I have had in rotation for a while. Knitting lends itself to the Talking Heads or Beck or old Arcade Fire. I miss running terribly and hope to get back soon. Walking is mostly what I do right now (although two broken small toes has kept that slower than usual) and then I choose Metric, the English Beat anything good 80’s.
