Gnomes vs Snowmen Opening Pics

Update: You can now download the show catalog at the gallery hanahou website!

Erika at gallery hanahou just sent me photos from last Thursday’s opening of Gnomes vs Snowmen!

It was an incredible evening for me: wonderful to finally unveil the epic battle, so great to have the support of friends, and a pleasure to meet new people!

I have many people to thank for helping make the show happen: gallery hanahou and Pictoplasma, Cascade Yarns, and awesome knitters Faith Hale, Tomo Tanaka, Lisa Tomko, and Angela Tong. Thank you all!!!

Gnomes vs Snowmen will be up through November 18th at gallery hanahou in NYC. (You can also download the show catalog at the gallery website.)

Of course, more photos of the pieces are coming soon too!

Hello Kitty Wagashi

We all know that Hello Kitty has been everywhere and done everything. Still, I’m always a sucker for a Hello Kitty/Japanese food combo. See how cute!

I love the detail put into this Re-Ment set—even her cushion is molded to look like it has a soft texture. And don’t even get me started on the traditional Kitty sweets.

And guess what: I bought two of these blind boxes, and the other one is going to the winner of the Mochimochi Photo Contest, along with lots of other goodies from Japan! Just one more reason to enter! The deadline is coming up in two weeks, so there’s still plenty of time to knit up a Mochimochi toy and take a fun picture.

Tiny French Bulldog

tinyfrenchie

It seems like everywhere I look these days, I encounter French bulldogs. They always make me smile! Maybe there’s something about the combination of their compact size, big ears, and easygoing personality that reminds me of a cat. (I have to admit I’m more of a cat person.)

But dogs are also fun in general because they come in so many shapes and sizes! I’m sure I could easily do a new tiny breed every week for a year if I chose to.

No contest this weekend, but your captions are welcome, especially from Frenchie fans!

Talk at the American Folk Art Museum in NYC

Thank you so much to everyone who came out last night for the opening of Gnomes vs Snowmen!! I had such a great time and I hope you all enjoyed the cute chaos and adorable violence. Photos are coming soon!

makeitthursdayFor anyone who might be in the NYC area and interested in learning a bit more about what it is that I do, I’m giving a presentation at the American Folk Art Museum next Thursday as part of their new Make it Thursday series!

I feel so honored to have the opportunity to give a talk there. I’ll be showing some photos and talking about how I got started knitted toys and how they turned into the big crazy projects I’ve been doing in the past couple of years.

The talk starts at 6 pm on November 10th. Tickets are $10 for non-members, and can be purchased at the museum website.

Gnomes vs Snowmen Opens Today!!

The battle commences today! Gnomes vs. Snowmen opens at gallery hanahou starting at noon today for the Pictoplasma Festival Character Walk. If you’re in the NYC area, join me tonight for the opening reception at 6-8 pm!

To give you an idea of what my past few weeks have been like, this is what my table looked like two days ago:

Chaos!

I’ll post actual photos from the show very soon, of course. Whether or not you can make it to the show in person, I have a question for you:

Who are YOU rooting for??

Tiny Witch is a Spelling Champ

Happy Belated Halloween!

Thanks, everyone, for your patience with the website difficulties and the delay in results of the Tiny Witch caption contest. There were so many great entries that we have to go with THREE winners this time, each of whom came up with a very clever spell for our witch.

tinywitch

From Fran:

Dpn, dpn purl and knit,
use scrap yarn, and a dash of wit!
(Tiny Witch’s spell for creating more tiny mochimochi!)

From Mireya:

skeins and spooks ,
needles and hooks,
wake to your delight,
condure and cast
purl and twirl ,
allow my needled knit with all their might!!

And from Glenys:

Spicky spacky, I see you,
Wonky wobbly, what would you do.
Trick or threat, stick or stones,
Potion I’ve made or maybe bones.
But first for breakfast, yup?
How bout eggs sunny side up?

I do believe that Tiny Witch is well equipped to charm her way around Mochimochi Land with these spells.

Since we have three winners, all three will get the Tiny Zombie Kit! Although Halloween is over for this year, we all know that Tiny Zombies are always in style.
