Did you hear that Seseame Workshop is producing new episodes of The Electric Company?
I don’t have any specific memories of the show, which was in reruns on PBS by the time I was around to see it, but it must have made an impression on me, because everything I imagine about childhood in the ’70s seems to be based on the show: cheery diversity, music that was both educational and smart, and swirling animations in yellows and reds.
Here’s a delightful clip with Morgan Freeman that I could watch over and over again. I love its totally analog quality.
The new episodes are supposed to begin airing this fall.
So that was a show in the 70’s… to bad I wasn’t around to see it. And now, when they make new episodes, I am out of the age range! Only by three years, though.
Boy, did that bring back some memories!! I loved that show when I was a kid. :)
OH GOODY!!!!
THIS IS SO AWESOME!!!!
I WANNA WATCH IT!!!
i was so completely a part of the original target audience that i didn’t even *know* it was morgan freeman! omigod. !!
no wonder his voice seems so full of knowledge… thanks for taking me back to my swirly 70’s childhood, Anna!
Oh wow… I watched the ‘Lick-a-Lolly’ song and it is possibly the best kid’s show song ever made! I was dancing in my chair!
Yay! I can’t wait! I used to watch this in the 80’s. Most of my friends, even those around my age have never heard of this show. Glad to see it coming back, I think my boys are going to love it.
I remember them! Woot! Sister and I sitting indian style on the floor watching it all!
Thanks for sharing with us.
I actually found the Electric Company a little scary when I was a child. I think it was that I found it a bit too hyperkinetic for me.
I was a kid in the 70’s and this show along with Zoom were great for those of us who outgrew Sesame Street. My parents allowed us to watch PBS although other television was off limits. It was definitely “cheery diversity” From my perch in suburbia, it seemed so cool to me to live in a little crowded apartment in the city with interesting neighbors.
no WAY!! I totally just borrowed the best of the electric company from the library over the weekend! I haven’t had a chance to watch it yet, but I am so excited! and even more excited they’re making new ones! eeee!!!
