If Wishes Were Dishes

You know what would be fun? Making dishes with cute patterns on them.

elephantplates

(Not as easy to execute as a knitting project, unfortunately, but at least I can sketch it.)

Maybe it’s the warm weather finally come to NY, but my focus is just all over the place! There are suddenly tons of different projects that I want to start all at the same time.

We Have a Chart!

Look what I finally finished up this weekend: the Stackable Cats cross-stitch chart! It had been nearly done for a long time, and I just had to finish it up and format it into a printable form.

Now it’s just a matter of getting the pdf up on the website as a free download, then I hope some of you will give my first cross-stitch pattern a try!

A Pile of Pups

Only one more class to go in my Illustrator course, and I’m afraid I haven’t been practicing as much as I should be. But I’m still very excited about the application and all the crazy cool stuff you can do with it. Especially 3D effects!

pupsillo

This is a kind of preview of the next pattern I’ll be releasing in the Mochimochi Shop. Finally, a stacking pet for dog lovers! I think the illustration more or less looks like the knitted version, except less knitted and soft. (And grass is not included.)

For some reason, I’m suddenly feeling an urge to make stacking animals out of blocks of cheese. This sounds like a lot of fun to me at 1:20 in the morning. If only I knew an animal lover who was hosting a whimsical wine-tasting party.

Look Around You

Here is a new (to me) television show that I’m pretty excited about. Look Around You is a British spoof on early 1980s educational science shows, done in a deadpan style that is totally spot-on. (Anybody remember 321 Contact?) Most of the people I’ve mentioned it to haven’t seen it, so I thought I would post a clip here.

The show originally aired in the UK a few years back, and it’s now being shown in the US on Adult Swim. (The later episodes include a cast of friendly hosts, but I think I prefer the documentary-style episodes like the one above.)

My Fashion Secret?

goodwill1

Like most everyone else I know, I’ve been trying to cut my clothes shopping budget lately. For me, this has mostly meant staying away from Bloomingdale’s and other favorite stores altogether, but the other day my sister and I gave Goodwill in Stillwater, OK, a try. I wasn’t expecting to find much there in a small university town, but I was pleasantly surprised with some great finds!

I was so excited that I took photos while my sister was in the fitting room…

Aren’t these shoes awesome? The pair in front fit me perfectly, and the pair behind fit my sis’s narrower feet.

goodwill3

I love the cut of this blouse.

goodwill4

This print struck me as very Marc by Marc Jacobs.

goodwill5

Another neat print from a dress that seemed very Max Mara (especially in its fabric and cut) to me.

goodwill6

LOVE this necklace (from the Goodwill in Owasso).

I can’t wait to start sporting all this stuff and have handsome guys lower their glasses in my direction.

The Knitted Odd-bod Bunch

I’m very excited about this new book of knitted toy patterns!

oddbodbunch

The Knitted Odd-bod Bunch contains 35 patterns by Donna Wilson, a UK designer whom I hadn’t previously heard of. I love her funny and artistic versions of animals! I especially like the design of her book and its photography, most of which places the knitted creatures in scenes with hand-illustrated cardboard cutouts as props and scenery elements.

Looking at her website, it seems that Donna mainly concentrates on selling her finished toys and other goods instead of knitting patterns. It’s neat that she uses her designs in such a broad way, something I’ve been thinking about for myself lately.

50% Off at Dollar Jewelry

This sight in Tulsa yesterday kind of made my day.

dollarjewelry

…until I got closer, and saw that the 50% off sale was for handbags only. I refuse to pay full price for my dollar jewelry.

Bonus! A Google search led me to this story about two burglars who broke into this very same jewelry store last year!
