Marianne’s Lovable Puppet Loki

Having not seen The Avengers, I may be behind the summer blockbuster times, but I can still appreciate the cleverness of Mariannes_stuff’s adorable Loki puppet.

I gather that he’s the bad guy of the movie, but if he looks anything like Marianne’s version, he sure is a cute one!

And look—little Loki too!

Marianne used the Puppet Love pattern as a base for her little baddie. You can read a bit more about her process on her Ravelry project page.

I’m psyched to see that some daring knitters are challenging themselves with Mochimochi projects for the Ravellenic Games! They even have an adorable badge, created by BreiKonijn.

As you may have heard, the Ravellenic Games got some unexpected publicity a few weeks back when its previous Olympics-inspired name got on the radar of the US Olympic Committee’s lawyers. Although now renamed, it seems to me at least that the spirit of the Ravelleniads (assuming that’s what they’re now called) has only been strengthened, with knitters stretching their skills to accomplish new fiber heights, all while enjoying the Olympic games coverage from London.

Although I’m not involved in the organization of Team Mochimochi, I’m excited to watch from the sidelines—I see that some knitters have already started posting photos of their accomplishments on their Ravelry discussion thread! (They also seem open to new members.)

Goooo TEAM!! And let us know in the comments if you’re taking part in the Ravellenics!

Future Knitter

I got to spend last week on vacation with my sister and adorable niece Nora! I already knew that Nora was a fantastic baby, but I found out on our trip that she is also an aspiring yarn artist.

At almost eight months old, Nora still shares many similarities with my cats. I’m thinking that will change quickly, but I’m hoping the yarn obsession is here to stay!

Bonbons Giveaway Winners

The time has come to choose the winners in our Lion Brand Bonbons giveaway!

Earlier this month, I asked you to leave a comment on the giveaway post telling us about the smallest thing you’ve ever knit, for a chance to win the new Bonbons yarn from Lion Brand. At the time of choosing, we had 293 comments—wow!

The tiny gnomes have been bugging me to involve them more in the official business of Mochimochi Land, so I thought I’d indulge them by letting them choose the winners out of a bowl.

Before choosing the winners, the gnomes insisted on first going for a swim in the pieces of paper. This was a big waste of time, if you ask me, and two them suffered from paper cuts, just as I had warned them.

I finally got them to choose one winner each. The first gnome picked ZZZ, which we decided must be 222.

The smallest thing I ever knit was an olive–and I messed up the shape, so it became yoda’s head. I knit a teeny sweater to go with and a belt, and ended up with a yoda finger puppet!

The next number they picked was 165….

That’s beffuh:

The smallest thing I’ve ever knit was a hat for a matching Christmas jacket I made for my sister’s stuffed animal bear. I made it up in the car on the drive over and it turned out quite well, I must say! :)

And our final number is 106…

After choosing the winners, the gnomes decided that they would rather keep the Bonbons for themselves, since the little balls of yarn are appropriately tiny gnome-sized. Selfish gnomes!

I told them they would have to learn to knit first—I’ve tried to teach them several times, but their attention spans are just about as short as they are.

A Delicious Assortment of Very Small Knits

Sumo v Trash Can

In our third match, Tiny Sumo Wrestler is up against his toughest opponent yet! You can bet that lots of trash talk led up to this fight, and I have a feeling neither of them will come out of it smelling like roses.
