Great attention to detail.

I googled it, and it looks like the Hot Dog Man statue is available in various sizes to hot dog joint owners looking to drum up business. (Good luck with that, I say!)

Share your Smallest Knits: Lion Brand Giveaway!

The smallest thing I ever knitted was this itty-bitty elephant, made with lace weight yarn and size 000 needles, which I made a couple of years ago.

Even though I’m always knitting tiny things, making this extra-tiny guy drove me nuts! But it was a fun challenge and I’m glad I attempted it. (Unfortunately I think I accidentally vacuumed it up at some point, but at least I have the photo.)

If you know me, you know I always have tiny knits on my mind, but I’m especially thinking about them lately because the nice people at Lion Brand recently sent me the smallest, cutest sets of mini skeins I’ve ever seen!

I’m really not much of a squealer, but these perfect little packages elicited some audible delight out of me when I first saw them. They’re Lion Brand’s new Bonbons yarn, which is now available on the Lion Brand website and also at the Lion Brand Yarn Studio in NYC. Each assortment contains 8 mini skeins of yarn, and they’re available in sport-weight mercerized cotton, acrylic, and sparkling acrylic-blend.

I chose the three brightest assortments to photograph, but there are three more packages of equally lovely colors.

I probably don’t need to tell you that the Bonbons would be perfect for making little knitted toys, or ornaments, or embellishments, or any other small project that only requires a little bit of yarn.

Lucky Stars Illuminate Knitty City

If you’ve been to Knitty City lately, you’ve seen that they have a starry window display this month!

Along with the adorable hot air balloons that you can see in the photo, my sherbet-hued Lucky Stars make for an unconventional “stars and stripes” theme for July. I love the idea of NYC pedestrians pausing for a moment to take in the charming scene as they rush off to their next air-conditioned destination.

Tiny Zombie Class at Lion Brand Yarn Studio on Sept 23

If you’re new to tiny knitting and live in the NYC area, I have a class coming up in September just for you!

On September 23 I’ll be teaching a Tiny Zombie knitting class at the Lion Brand Yarn Studio in Manhattan. We’ll cover all of my tips and tricks for knitting really tiny toys, and you’ll take home a finished Tiny Zombie that you made in class!

I haven’t been teaching many classes lately—my time is largely taken up with designing these days—so this is a rare opportunity to see exactly how I knit tiny mochis and get started doing it yourself. Sumo v Sushi

The long-awaited fight of the summer is here! Live on tape from Mochimochi Land, it’s SUMO V SUSHI!

Linda was the first person to match up these competitors when Tiny Sumo Wrestler made his debut, so she wins an adorable Little Twin Stars Re-ment set. Thank you to everyone who made suggestions!

Now the question is: will the world’s smallest heavyweight continue to pick fights with other tiny mochis, or has his appetite for roughhousing been sated?

Jill’s Creepy Couch Companion

Something with tentacles has been keeping me very very busy these past couple of weeks. I’m afraid I can’t say anything more about it than that, but it’s been reminding me of this creepy photo that Jill Watt took of her Grouchy Couch and a mysterious living room guest…

I love the surreal spookiness of this image! The miniature window complete with curtains is a nice touch too.

I believe the creature behind the couch is a design from Hansi Singh. And the pattern from Grouchy Couch can be found in Knitting Mochimochi.

Unexpected design combos are so much fun, don’t you think?
