Now that Easter has ended and most of the candy has been ravaged, let’s find out what our very serious trio of Jelly Beans have been thinking about…
To bean, or not to bean, that is the question.
That deep jelly bean thought was suggested by Lizzy, the winner of this week’s caption contest! Lizzy wins the spring PDF pattern collection of Ninjabun, Rainycloud, and Which Came First.
Congrats to Lizzy and thank you to everyone who participated!
Thank you for all the great Tiny Jelly Bean captions! We’ll choose a winner later today, so if you haven’t left yours yet, there’s still time.
Yesterday’s big Easter candy event for me was the unwrapping of this jumbo Kinder Egg that I had saved from my trip to Berlin. Look how big it is!
If you’re not familiar with Kinder Eggs, they are delightful hollow chocolate eggs that are available in a many countries. But they aren’t sold in the US because they contain a toy inside that often is made of many tiny pieces to assemble. It’s the complex toys, often with moving parts, that make Kinder Eggs so cool.
But not all Kinder Eggs are created equal! The ones from Germany are definitely made of the best chocolate and contain the coolest toys. I had never seen one so big, so I was excited to bring this one back from my trip. Now let’s see what’s inside!
It’s a really big capsule egg! Somehow I didn’t expect it to be this big.
And inside… many little parts! That’s always a good sign.
I love how clear the assembly instructions always are.
And here is the assembled toy. The rubber band at the bottom that lets you wind up Mr. Froggie so he can boat around in the sink.
My husband tried it and it works! The chocolate was delicious too.

Happy Earth Day, everyone! I tried to come up with something earthy for today’s Tiny Thing, but I’ve already knitted a Tiny Seedling, a Tiny Tree and Shrub, and a Tiny Earth. So here are some jelly beans instead!
Jelly beans are perhaps the least seriously taken food, and these guys are out to prove the world wrong! What serious thoughts do their sticky sugary Easter-y exteriors belie? Leave your caption in the comments and we’ll pick our favorite on Monday!
The winner this time will get a special springtime pattern package: Ninjabun, Rainycloud, and Which Came First!
I’m having a bit of knitter’s block this morning, and so today’s tiny thing is a bit delayed. (Suggestions are welcome!) In the meantime, check out this amazing nest of Tiny Baby Bunnies that Mochimochi friend Sheila made this week.
I can’t get over this cuteness! The fun fur grass is an excellent touch too. Somebody is going to have a very happy Easter, I suspect.
Make your own baby bunnies with the free pattern!
Since I posted the free pattern on Monday, Tiny Baby Bunnies have been multiplying like you-know-whats! 53 projects have been posted on Ravelry so far, and I have a feeling that number will jump before Easter. Here are just a few that caught my eye…
Ruskin’s bunnies had a romp in the flowers!
Spbuckler added some mini embellishments for a dolled-up bunny.
m3clarity’s brown worsted bunny has an appetite for candy…
And Coffee & Cream made a mama bunny to go with her baby bunnies by using DK yarn.
Have you made a Tiny Baby Bunny? Add your photo to the Mochimochi Friends Flickr group for everyone to see!
One more post about my recent show in Berlin! It just occurred to me that I took photos of all of the planets before shipping them off to Germany, and these show more details than the pics from inside the gallery. So here are the ones that I haven’t posted here before.
Birthdayville, aka the Cupcake planet:
Planet TV:
… which is plugged into Pollute-o (the only cleverly named planet):
Waterworld:
Baby Planet and Cookie Moon:
Jailbird Planet and Ball and Chain Moon:
Gray Comet with Santa (the solar system just needed a Santa):
Purple Comet with Penguins:
Other heavenly bodies include Ursa Majorly Cute (I guess that one also has a clever title), Snowman Planet, and the Giant Ball of Yarn in the Sky.
As I’ve mentioned (and much to my surprise at the time), ALL of these pieces sold, so I won’t be showing them again. Guess I’ll just have to dream up another show for another place…
This is a free and easy pattern for everyone to enjoy. Please check out the Mochimochi Shop for more patterns that you’ll love!
Need a last minute egg-stuffer for Easter? These mini-marshmallow-size bunnies are the ultimate scrap yarn project, and can be whipped up in just a few minutes! Use sock yarn as shown, or scale the project up by using thicker yarn and larger needles for a bigger bunny. Continue reading “Free Pattern: Tiny Baby Bunnies” →
