Elf Huddle
It has been decided that the best way to display cute holiday knits is to arrange them in a circle!
Miss Cookie has been knitting these darling guys as holiday gifts for her own special elves. The stripes she added make them extra festive, no? You can get the pattern in the shop on its own or as part of the new Holiday package!
I have a feeling I’m not the only one who will be staying up late knitting for the next couple of days. Let us know what YOU’RE frantically trying to finish in the comments!
Plinky the Piano
Update: The pattern for Plinky & Plunky is now available!
Last week I dropped everything because I decided on a whim that I just had to knit a piano. Meet Plinky!
Plinky was one of the more challenging knits I’ve undertaken in a while, but I’m pretty happy with how he turned out. I don’t currently have a name for his bench friend, so I’m open to suggestions. (If I use yours, you’ll get the pattern for free!)
I’ll be working on the pattern in the next couple of months!
A Spectrum of Santas
I think we all agree that Bonnie’s winning photo from this year’s Mochimochi Photo Contest was a feat of craft, color, and photography. Here it is again in case you missed it:
Well, this talented knitter recently reprised her Snowman wreath as a spectrum of Santas!!
I might even be more in love with the Santa version! Lots of work went into making all these little guys, but the result is incredible. Here’s another shot.
Like the snowman wreath, if these festive dudes don’t get you in the Christmas spirit, nothing will!
Sweaty, Serengeti, Spaghetti…Tiny Yeti!
You all made my morning very difficult with so many fantastic Tiny Yeti rhymes to choose from! Fortunately John helped out, and we decided on TWO winners of our Tiny Yet Rhyme-off.
Oh, no! said the tiny white yeti,
I awoke in the wide Serengeti!
The wildebeests here
Have nothing to fear
‘Cause I can’t make a move; I’m too sweaty!
That’s from Laura!
And our other winner:
The sweet tiny yeti
Feeling kind of petty
Went to his mother for aid.
No knitter was he
Though he wished he could be
For he was very, very afraid.
“White” he cried!
Is so easily dyed!
Which why I can only eat beans.
But out there he knew
Just out of his view
Was a world of exotic cuisines.
A plethora of berries
Big bright red cherries
All looked to be to his taste.
But the stains they’d impose
Upon his white clothes
Would leave him most disgraced.
The solution however
He felt was most clever
And for it his mother was key.
Just simple knit sweater
Would remove his fetters
He stood and solemnly decreed.
So she worked both day and night
Though she felt the sweater might
Leave her son quite sweaty.
But the tiny yeti felt
It was wonderfully svelte
For he was finally able to eat spaghetti!
That Tiny Yeti tale is by Mariette!
Oh, I just noticed that both of our winners used “sweaty” to rhyme with Yeti. I guess there’s something about a sweaty yeti that is adorable.
For their creative yeti stories and deft rhyming, Laura and Mariette each get a Tiny Santa Kit!
There were so many other superb rhymes in the comments—definitely worth reading if you’re a yeti fan!
Tiny Yeti
See this post for the winning rhymes by Laura and Mariette!
I took a quick break from piano knitting this morning to fashion this snowy little guy!
I don’t know if yetis typically have horns, but this one told me he needed them for opening cans of beans.
Let’s put a twist on our regular caption contest, and have a Tiny Yeti Rhyme-off! Give us your cutest, scariest, silliest Tiny Yeti rhyme in the comments, and we’ll pick our favorite on Monday to win…
National Knit a Piano Week
A couple of days ago I had the idea to try knitting a piano. Once I got into it, my to-do list for the week went out the window, because now it is National Knit a Piano Week in this household.
Many questions have arisen in the process. What is the best non-boring color for a piano? How many keys should a silly nonrealistic representation of a piano have? And of course: lid or no lid?? (That last one has yet to be resolved.)
In my tiny designs, I aspire to make everything as simple as possible, which is a fun challenge. It’s also fun to go a bit in the opposite direction sometimes, and try to make something that involves some geometry and math. (Not swatching, though. Let’s not get carried away.)
Probably by the end of the week I’ll know if this piano has potential for a pattern, or if it was just a fun experiment in knitted instruments. I’ll keep you updated!
Tiny Kits in Creative Knitting
Hey look—My Tiny Kits are featured in the January issue of Creative Knitting!
I’m thrilled to see my little Tiny Burger in print. It’s so cool that he caught the eye of a magazine! Thank you, Creative Knitting!
And I agree that the kits make nifty gifts for knitters—you can find all seven kits, each of which knits up two or more Tiny Mochis, in the Mochimochi Shop! We’ve been shipping out quite a few for the holidays this month. For people in the US, order by December 20th (and choose Priority mail) for delivery by the 24th.
We also wholesale the kits, so if your LYS doesn’t carry them, please encourage them to get in touch!
