Semifinalists ’11, Group One

The 2011 Mochimochi Photo Contest results continue! We’ve featured some really impressive photos so far this week—and those were just the Honorable Mentions! Today and tomorrow we’re bringing you the 20 semifinalists for this year’s contest. We’re dividing them into two days, but they are all up for a chance to be in the finals, and you have the power to put them there!

Take a look at these wonderfully creative photos, and then ROOT FOR YOUR FAVORITES in the comments. We’ll be selecting the final 10 photos based on the comments you leave, so it’s important to speak up!

Honorable Mentions ’11, Group One

Thank you again to all who entered this year’s Mochimochi Photo Contest! This was our 5th Annual contest, and it lived up to the occasion with more entries than ever before (over 600!) and tons of fantastic photos. John and I nearly skipped Thanksgiving entirely because we were working day and night to narrow the photos down to 20 honorable mentions and 20 semifinalists. (That a slight exaggeration, but it was really tough!)

We’ll be posting the honorable mentions today and tomorrow, then when we start posting the semifinalists, we’ll ask for your input to help narrow them down further to 10 finalists. Once we have the final 10, we will have an official vote we hope everyone will take part in. So much fun!

Today we bring you the first group of Honorable Mentions, photos that didn’t quite make the top 20, but that we were thrilled with nevertheless. Check them out after the jump!

Twiggins for Luv-able & Hug-able

Luv-able & Hug-able, the annual holiday plush show held at gallery hanahou in NYC, is opening next week!

This show really snuck up on me, since I was so focused on Gnomes and Snowmen for most of the fall, but it’s so fun to be able to participate in this group show happening right after my installation!

I did something a little different this year for my pieces—walking through Prospect Park one day, I was inspired to use a bit of nature in combination with yarn… The result is Twiggins!

Rainbow Twiggins are the noisiest variety of this new species, constantly singing their off-key folk tunes.

Berry Twiggins are quiet but active, bouncing from branch to branch.

And Citrus Twiggins are mischievous little thieves who have never worked a day in their lives.

These pieces are meant to be mounted on a wall—hopefully once the show is up I can photograph them that way. I’ve gotten a peek at the other plushes in the show, and there are so many fantastic ones to choose from!

OK everybody, the 2011 Mochimochi Photo Contest is now officially closed for entries. Thank you so much for all your photos—more than SIX HUNDRED of them!! Definitely the most entries ever.

John and I will be going over all the photos over Thanksgiving weekend, and next week we’ll start posting honorable mentions. Then we’ll post the semifinalists, and ask all of you to let us know what your favorites are. THEN we’ll have the official final vote! So be sure to come back for all that action.

And if you wanted to enter but you were a little late getting your entry ready, go ahead and add your photos to the Mochimochi Friends Flickr group. They will automatically be entered in next year’s contest.

Last Day to Enter Your Photos!

You have until midnight Eastern tonight (Monday, Nov 21) to enter your photos in the 2011 Mochimochi Photo Contest! If you have a fun photo of a toy you knitted from a Mochimochi pattern, quick—add it to the Mochimochi Friends Flickr group so that it can be eligible for this year’s contest.

If you miss the deadline, though, don’t despair! Any photos added to the Flickr group after midnight tonight will automatically be in the running for next year’s contest.
