This may be the biggest Tiny yet!

My joey doesn’t get out much…he’s a pouch potato!

So, what kind of baggage does a tiny kangaroo carry around with her, aside from an even tinier baby kangaroo? Leave your caption suggestion in the comments, and we’ll pick a winner (of a free PDF pattern from the
Mochimochi Shop
) on Monday!

October 30: Mochimochi Tea Party + Trunk Show in NYC!

If you’ve wanted to check out my show at gallery hanahou but haven’t had a chance to stop in during the week, there will be another opportunity next Saturday (October 30th) to wrap up the show: a fun tea party / trunk show!

Before we disassemble the whole installation (sob!), we’re going to give people an opportunity to purchase and take home many of the pieces from the landscape.

There will also be a selection of other pieces that I’ve made in recent years (for viewing only) that weren’t a part of this show, including my Swimming Lemmings from 2007.

Also: tea and cupcakes!

If you plan to come, just RSVP to info@galleryhanahou.com. Hope to see you on the 30th!

From Grouchy Couch to Monster Bed

Sometimes projects just aren’t quite working as we had expected. When onna stick decided that her Grouchy Couch colors weren’t what she had in mind, instead of ditching the project, she made it into a bed instead. But not just a bed—a bed with a mysterious monster lurking under the covers!

I love it!

I found onna stick’s monster bed in the Mochimochi Friends Flickr pool. Add your photos of toys made from Mochimochi Land patterns to the group by November 15th, and you’ll be entered in the Mochimochi Photo Contest!

More Pics from my Show

I took a bunch of photos of my installation the other day. Here are some highlights!

It’s pretty impossible to show all of the details here, but after the show is over I’m going to try putting together a bigger interactive feature that will include more photos and the written descriptions that are on the gallery walls.

I’ve dropped in the gallery a few times since the show opened, and I’ve been really happy to see new visitors every time! That’s largely due to a feature in The Village Voice. Here’s some more press for the show since then:

Blast
Super Cute Kawaii
GoSee
pica + pixel
Vevant

Most of the elements in the installation are available for purchase as separate pieces, which you can view and order via the gallery hanahou online shop. And of course it’s up through the end of the month, so come check it out if you find yourself in NYC!

Tiny Chef will Not Make you Eggs

Thank you all for the Tiny Chef captions! It seems that many of us feel like a tiny chef sometimes.

And our winner is…

tinychef_kitchen

Who asked for eggs sunny side up with a side of pancakes? I may be short, but I am not a short-order cook!

by kelly-ann! That means kelly-ann gets a free PDF pattern from the Mochimochi Shop. Congrats!

And next time I’m working hard to cook up a dinner that seems like more trouble than it’s worth, I’ll try to remember that at least I’m not a tiny chef in a big kitchen.

What in the world could this tiny chef be cooking up in his kitchen with that wee little whisk? Leave your funny/cute caption in the comments, and we’ll pick a winner of a free PDF pattern from the Mochimochi Shop on Monday!

November 4: Knitting Mochimochi Talk at Loops, Tulsa

loopslogoIf you’re in the Tulsa area, please join me on November 4th at Loops (the Utica Square location) for a talk! I’ll be there at 6-8 pm with the whole knitted cast from my book Knitting Mochimochi, and I’ll discuss how I came up with the designs, some toy knitting tips, and anything else you want to talk about. Brandi Simons, the local photographer who took all the photos from the book in the Tulsa area, will also be there.

There will also be a book and yarn giveaway, so mark your calendar!
