Winning caption by Emma:

Once they’re boiled they’re no longer soya beans, but has beans.

What do you think it’s like to be tiny boiled soybeans? Leave your caption in the comments, and we’ll pick the one that makes us giggle the most on Monday. The winner gets a free pattern for Ninjabun!

Also: what should be next in the sushi bar set? I’m thinking it has to have some kind of roll, and then maybe another type of nigiri sushi?

Mochimochi at NYC Maker Faire Sept 17

makerfaire2011I’m happy to announce that I’ll again be at the NYC Maker Faire next weekend in Queens! You’ll be able to find me in the library of the Museum of Science on Saturday, Sept 17th—I’m bringing my Teeny-Tiny diorama and I’ll have my new book there too. I’ll also be doing a toy knitting demo at the CRAFT stage at 1 pm on the 17th.

If you haven’t experienced a Maker Faire before, it’s a celebration of creativity that is lots of fun for all ages. Hope to see you there next Saturday!

Rainbow Rainycloud Mobile

How lovely is this Rainycloud mobile that the sisters of Green Eyed Monster made for a kids’ room?

rainycloud_greeneyed

I love how the simple shapes sans eyes and bright colors make for a clean and happy piece. You can see more pretty pics of it on the Green Eyed Monster blog.

As always, if you’ve made something fun from a Mochimochi pattern, please add it to the Mochimochi Friends Flickr group! It will appear on the gallery page, and it will automatically be entered in our next photo contest.

How to: Knitting with Double-Pointed Needles

Knitting with double-pointed needles, or DPNs, is an excellent way to knit 3-dimensional toys with minimal seaming. The needles, which are usually used 4 at a time, take a little getting used to, but it’s really less complicated that it looks! This tutorial will show you the DPN basics when knitting toys.

Tiny Sushi has a Black Belt in Puns

Loved the caption contest entries this weekend! It was hard to choose a favorite, but I found this one irresistible…

Tiny Sushi to Tiny Edamame: Wasabi?
Tiny Edemame: Nato much, you?

That cute double-pun caption is from Bonnie!

I seriously considered knitting up some Tiny Edamame this morning just for this post, but that seemed a little crazy. However, I am thinking it would be awesome to do a collection of sushi bar tiny mochis, as some of you suggested, so edamame is next on my list for that!

For her caption, Bonnie gets the pattern for Flapjack Frogs!

And here are some other pun-tastic entries:

Has anyone seen my umami?

“Why don’t ya come up and sashimi some time?”

“Shrimply adorable.”

Because of some unexpected travel delays, we’ll be choosing a winner of the Tiny Sushi caption contest tomorrow (so you get more time to enter if you haven’t yet).

Instead, here’s a funny picture of Soupy in mid-yawn while Nipsey sleeps nearby in a weird position!

Tiny Sushi

I love how this guy turned out!

The idea to knit this little tiny ebi sushi came directly from the recent Teeny-Tiny Mochimochi giveaway contest that Hannah held on her blog BitterSweet: the winner suggested that I make a Tiny Sushi!

It seems like there have been Mochimochi contests left and right these days, but one more this week couldn’t hurt, right? Leave your caption for Tiny Sushi in the comments to this post (one per person, please) and we’ll choose our favorite on Tuesday to win…

Podcast Interview with Knit Picks

I recently had the honor of being interviewed by Alison, the director of Knit Picks, for their podcast. The interview is now up on their website!

knitpicks_interview

It’s so funny to think about how this time last year I was talking to Kelley Petkun (the regular podcast host at Knit Picks) about my first book, Knitting Mochimochi… There was definitely plenty of new stuff to talk about this time around, and Alison was wonderful to talk to.

I hope it’s a fun listen, although I’m a weenie about hearing my own voice and can’t listen to it myself!

Knit Picks is also giving away a copy Teeny-Tiny Mochimochi and a bunch of Palette yarn to get started on your Tinys!

knitpicks_palette

I used Palette to knit many of the samples that appear in the book—it’s one of my current favorite yarns. You have until September 6th to enter the contest on their blog. (And wowza, they’ve got more then 2,000 entries already!)

A big thank-you to Knit Picks for all their support!
