Thank You for a Great 2010
I wanted to wrap up 2010 with a thank-you to all of you who have visited the Mochimochi Blog this past year. Whether you’ve let your presence known or not, I’ve enjoyed sharing my projects with you!
So much happened in this busy year. How about a quick review?
– A new website design
– 10 new patterns in the shop
– 3 new free patterns on the blog
– Knitting pigeons with Stitch London
– Knitting Mochimochi came out
– My first solo show opened in NYC
– 52 weekly Tiny Things (assuming I can squeeze one more in by Friday)
– and the best ever Mochimochi Photo Contest!
I feel so lucky to get to do all of this and have you all along with me, and I’m planning and wishing for more exciting stuff in 2011. See you then!
First Pattern for 2011?
Betcha can’t guess what I’m working on for 2011!
I’m at that stage in the design process when I’m daring to hope that it will turn out just how I want, but at the back of my mind I’m fearing that I may need to rethink it entirely…
Either way, I’m looking forward to finding out what the new year will bring.
Knitted Nipsey and Soupy
Now that Christmas is over, I can post my knitted Nipsey and Soupy! They were a gift to my mother-in-law Bonney, finished just a few days before the 25th.
As you can see, Nipsey doesn’t seem to agree that his cat looks like him, but he appreciates the effort and the added touch of a fish.
And Soupy is wondering when this rude intruder will get out of his personal space!
Tiny Fruitcake
Tiny Fruitcake wishes you a very merry Christmas! And so do Nipsey, Soupy, John and I!
Joy
I was really excited last month when my friend Kana asked me to create something to display in the window of her store for the holiday season. Kana is the woman behind Saffron, the beautiful flower/vintage/art shop on Hanson Place in Brooklyn. (I’ve blogged about it before a couple of times.)
I’ve had a bit of an obsession lately with knitted lettering, so I got out some Cascade 128 to make big squishy letters for this project!
The Santas tucked into the letters are Teeny-Tiny Mochimochi Santas made with worsted-weight yarn (Cascade 220).
Look closely and you can see a few more Santas peeking out of some vases below.
I hope this has brought smiles to the faces of some passers-by in the past few weeks!
Lumiukko Wreath
Here’s another darling holiday project! I love this simple snowman wreath that Tusulisa shared on Ravelry.
This knitter lives in Finland, where lumiukko is the word for snowman. Cute!
As always, check out the Mochimochi Shop for the pattern. (Need a last-minute gift for a knitter? Don’t forget we have downloadable gift cards in the shop too!)
Mochimochi in CraftSanity
Jennifer Ackerman-Haywood of CraftSanity just launched a great new magazine full of all kinds of projects—knitting, crochet, papercraft, recipes and more. She was nice enough to feature me in her first issue too!
Opposite the feature is the pattern for my Teeny-Tiny Mochimochi Snowmen. I hoped it was a project simple enough for her readers who have some knitting experience but don’t knit all the time.
The magazine is available both in print and as a PDF download.
On top of that, Jennifer just released a podcast of a conversation with me that she recorded a few weeks back. I always avoid hearing my recorded voice when possible, so I haven’t listened to it myself yet. But I remember having a great talk with her about knitting toys and what I was up to in 2010. (You can also see a photo of me desperately trying to get Nipsey to pose with me on her website.)
Thank you, Jennifer, and congrats on the new magazine!
